Hi Guys,

I asked afriman and afrigenie via PM a few questions that they not quite sure of,

so let me post it here, and ask everybody else....

can the LTE router we got from afrihost be"
a) backed up? in case I want to experiment a bit with the config without messing things up....
b) modified and upgraded to the latest version, or an alternate version like DD-WRT,

one thing makes me a bit worried, the fact they DONT auto update as I initially thought....

afriman pretty much told me you need to manually update the firmware onboard.....

I can use a telkom sim inside the router so I doubt there is any locking and it works perfectly so far so I'm sure other sims would work just fine. Infact in the HiLink app its stated as unlocked.

yes, but still backup the config? how does one do that?

and then, modifying the device to expand its capability, like different LTE bands, that have to be locked out in its stock form.

I mean isnt why DDWRT and alternative firmware came out for the first place?

surely I cant be the only one asking this question....

Haha so far you are the only one - the rest of us are content that everything works and that adventurous spirit has not gotten into us just yet. When bored and with time to kill on our hands then maybe we may just tinker with it.

no its due to thinking in time what else can this giant cellphone do besides give internet.....
I thought most of the peeps on MYBB wanted to know this as well....

just curiosity mainly....

Was about to ask this question as well. Anyone running custom firmware on this router?

seems I have managed to stump AH and MYBB, no mean feat:D

guess I should think Im smarter then them?

I've got our hardware guy documenting the steps to do this. He should have them for me ASAP and I'll post here for everyone's benefit :)

...in case somebody is interested in experimenting

Given enough time and resources I'm confident we'll eventually end up with a more feature-rich firmware out in the wild.
That said, i'm in way over my head here, so don't hold your breath...
