Has anyone attempted to cancel their 24month LTE contract with Telkom? What was the process and applicable penalties?

I'd guess you a little bit #%$%% on that :(

There is a reason I rather went for the 100GB + 100GB option on a month-to-month basis. Never in my life will I do a 24 month contract with someone like Telkom

Best of luck with your situation

Be thankful you are not stuck with the intro 10gb+10gb capped 3 year LTE contract like I am.
With speeds up to 2mbps download you are worse off than old dialup :(:(
I _really_ wish I could get out of this cr@p

Have you found out anything as of yet?, R600pm for 0.5mbps at night is no longer working for me.

Hi all, just curious on which areas do u guys stay? Other option is to "transfer an ownership" of your existing contracts to others who might want to take over your contract.

I finally got a reply from Telkom rep about the applicable penalties:

"The amount of the penalty will be all the remaining months of the contract duration."

Which is interesting as a previous article regarding early termination of a cell contract stated the formula by Telkom to be:

R800 + Device Subsidy × months remaining + bill for outstanding usage

I know this is for a cellphone contract but surely it cant be much different for an LTE contract?

Personally, i'm waiting to see if telkom does anything. If nothing changes in a month, then i'm going to try.

Curious to know how many people are thinking of cancelling after the news of the AUP?

Because Telkom are still breaching contract i am still waiting for a call from Telkom to confirm my cancellation i have sent an email to Jacqui without any response and also to Telkom Social without any response..so good luck to anyone wanting to get rid of it easily, i would rather pay more for ADSL and not be classified as an abuser for using a product as stated on their terms when i was sold it.

Give Telkom a month to respond, then send them another mail stating they have gone back on the agreement that you signed with them.
Which they did, because you signed up for a uncapped service that clearly stated video streaming would never be capped.

Notify them that an e-mail is considered legal notice of your intention to instruct the bank to put a stop order on the Debit and that you will return their equipment to store X on a specific date.
Package the router and return it to the store, and record on video when you return it to the store.

That's the end of it

Years ago I went to Telkom and cancelled my ADSL service and telephone line, 2 years later a lawyer started harassing me saying I owe Telkom R 5000 for ADSL services and line rental costs, I told him to e-mail me the information, which the fool did, I replied to the e-mail stating what happened and told them to go and do something with themselves.
By doing it on e-mail I had proof that I communicated with them, which was something that I didn't have when I went to the Telkom shop to cancel my telephone line and ADSL service.

Always remember, when you phone them you have no proof of what was said, do it all on e-mail

I used the online email feature on Telkom's website stating I want to cancel my contract due to the AUP and within 5 minutes got an email back with the attached cancellation form. Asking the agent if I submit this form will they be imposing penalties on the cancellation, I still have not had a reply on my question..

Got this email yesterday. So you can cancel without any penalties.

Good Day

Here is the brief we received yesterday, its also on the my broadband website. Link is on the subject line.

Please advise what you decide on going forward.

Telkom has revealed its new fair use policy (FUP) for its uncapped LTE service.
The network has set a usage threshold of 300GB, after which uncapped LTE connections will be throttled to 4Mbps.
When you exceed 350GB, your connection will be throttled to 2Mbps for the remainder of the month.
This soft cap runs separately to the existing 50GB threshold for peer-to-peer services such as BitTorrent and Skype, said Telkom.
“Telkom has listened to its customers and has revised the conditions of its FUP. The revisions seek to offer customers a fair and sustainable connectivity experience,” said Telkom.
“A speed of 2Mbps is adequate for standard definition streaming to one screen across popular content streaming providers like Netflix and ShowMax.”
Telkom has also ramped up investment in additional infrastructure to accommodate the growing demand for LTE services.
“Our decision to implement the FUP is premised on our commitment to deliver a quality connectivity to experience to all our customers,” said Telkom.
“We understand that quality data connectivity is in high demand and our new FUP reflects our understanding of this.”
“However, in instances where existing LTE Uncapped customers may have requirements beyond what we can cater for on this specific LTE product, we would like to engage these customers on alternative products better suited to their needs.”
“We are also willing to release these customers impacted by the FUP from their existing contracts without any penalty.”

Kind regards

So got a call now i have to pay R4372 to cancel they will not honor their side as i am not abusing my LTE i read the T/Cs to them that didn't help, explained they breached contract didn't help and said Jacqui has to contact you personally for the fees to be removed.

Good luck to anyone cancelling..think i need a triple bells for Braai Day...
