Lucid Air EV

Lucid tripled production and doubled deliveries in Q3

Lucid is making steady progress when it comes to its production and delivery numbers. In the first two quarters of this year the production numbers were hovering around 700 units. The third quarter saw a major jump and new record with 2,282 cars manufactured.

The deliveries are improving as well significantly, between July and September Lucid delivered 1,398 cars to the waiting customers. Yes, these aren’t ground-shuttering numbers when compared to Lucid’s competition, but the progress is substantial and it shows the production and delivery ramp-up is working.

The company delivered 2,437 Lucid Air models this year which is lower than the initial forecasts but, taking everything into account, those are really positive numbers. The company claims it will still manage to manufacture between 6,000 and 7,000 vehicles this year.

If Lucid maintains its production level in Q4, it shouldn't have a problem reaching that goal, the company has already produced 3,687 cars this year which leaves another 2,313 to get the minimum 6,000 cars. It is highly likely the company will try to beat its Q3 results in the next quarter and produce and deliver even more vehicles.

Lucid's New Home Charger Adds up to 80 Miles of Range in One Hour

The electric car maker says this is the fastest home charger available on the market today.

With EV adoption on the horizon, many still have range and charging anxiety. Will there be a charger available where I’m going? Will it give me enough juice to get back home? These are the questions a lot of potential EV owners are asking. Now, Lucid should be able to offer some reassurance to Air owners, thanks to a new home charger that can deliver up to 80 miles of range per hour plugged in.

The company released the new charger as part of its line of new Lucid vehicle accessories. Called the Lucid Connected Home Charging Station, it makes a big promise: using AC charging and capable of supporting up to 19.2 kWh, it can deliver up to 80 miles of range per hour. That’s faster than a lot of chargers currently on the market. For comparison, that’s much faster than Tesla’s home charger, though we should note, Tesla previously offered a home charger that matched Lucid’s 19.2-kWh rate, but it’s not available to buy currently. Today, the fastest Tesla home charger you can buy maxes out at 11.5 kWh.

Lucid will finally unveil the Air Pure and Air Touring on November 15

Lucid's Air lineup is pretty expansive, but so far, the two cheapest entry-level models haven't been released, despite announcements dating back all the way to 2020. This situation will finally be rectified on November 15, Lucid has revealed today.

On that day, the Lucid Air Pure and the Lucid Air Touring will "debut" in an online global launch event, when all of their specs will be outed, including estimated EPA range. The first Air Touring delivery will take place on the evening of November 15 at the company's Beverly Hills Studio.

That same week, the Air Pure and Air Touring will "make their public debut" at the aforementioned Beverly Hills Studio as well as at CDN Designer Night at the LA Auto Show on November 17.

The Lucid Air Pure will initially be available with a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive configuration - if you want the promised cheaper, single-motor rear-wheel drive variation you still have some waiting to do. With the Pure and the Touring, the Lucid Air range is complete.

Lucid Is Squaring Up to Do Battle With Texas Over Direct Sales

The EV maker is one of a few startups preparing to sue the Lone Star state over direct sales.

New Lucid Air Pure Costs Less Than Half the Price of the Air GT Performance

The new base-model Lucid makes 480 hp and gets a battery good for 410 miles for just $87,000 — a bargain compared to the rest of the Lucid lineup.

The Lucid Air Grand Touring may have a polarizing design, but it boasts some seriously impressive specs. It makes 819 hp and 885 lb-ft of torque while still offering a 516-mile range. You can also upgrade to the Performance version that makes 1,050 hp and 921 lb-ft of torque. But they’re all extremely pricey, with the Air Grand Touring starting at $154,000 and the GT Performance starting at $179,000. If that’s a bit much for your wallet, we’ve got good news: Lucid just introduced two new Air models that should be a bit more affordable.

2023 Lucid Air Pure

Eventually, there will be a single-motor version, but at launch the Air Pure will only be available in dual-motor form. It makes 480 hp total and comes with a battery rated at 410 miles of range. Lucid also says the lighter, smaller battery pack increases rear legroom. If you can find a powerful enough charger, the Air Pure can reportedly add 200 miles of range in only 15 minutes. It’s still quick, too, launching from zero to 60 mph in a claimed 3.8 seconds.

Lucid Gravity debuts tonight - watch it here live

It’s been a while since Lucid mentioned Gravity, its all electric SUV. The company managed somehow to keep it under wraps and not many leaks appeared over the two years since one of the prototypes was spotted testing in California.

Well, now the marketing machine kicked into high gear and Lucid announced the official debut of Gravity will take place later on today. The company took to Twitter and shared a short video teaser of the upcoming SUV:

What can we expect? Gravity is built on the same platform as Lucid Air and the two will share battery and powertrains which brings a tantalizing prospect of Gravity Sapphire... at some point in the future. It’s not certain we’ll see the Pure entry model since it is only RWD, it is possible the Gravity will start with Touring trim.

New Lucid Gravity is seven-seat super-SUV to rival Tesla Model X

Due in 2024, Californian firm's new flagship will combine spacious interior with searing pace

The new Lucid Gravity is a tech-rich and highly luxurious electric SUV aimed squarely at the BMW iX and Mercedes EQS SUV.

Due on sale in 2024, it is the second model in the California-based EV start-up's portfolio, after the Lucid Air luxury saloon - tipped for an imminent European and UK market launch – and will share the bulk of its technical make-up with its ultra-aero-efficient sibling.

The final production design remains to be finalised, but teasers indicate the Gravity will bear a strong resemblance to the Air - most notably in its aero-optimised silhouette and distinctive wraparound light bars.

It will offer a flexible seating arrangement with space for up to seven adults, Lucid promises, and will feature the latest version of Lucid's 'Glass Cockpit' digital dashboard, running off the firm's own software.

The firm's design boss Derek Jenkins hinted that innovative packaging solutions will make the Gravity feel bigger than it looks: "I’m so thrilled with the results we are seeing with Lucid Gravity, sparing no opportunity to build on everything we learned with Lucid Air to create something that warps the vehicle-class continuum.

Lucid Air Pure unveiled and Gravity to enter production in 2024

You gotta give it to Peter Rawlison and the Lucid team - they not only know how to design and engineer a ground and rule breaking car but they do know how to put on a classy show. No dancing, no weird music, no fluffy bunnies and absolutely no weird clothes. Just cars, facts - sure, maybe too many superlatives - and a cool take on Phil Collins’ classic.

First out the gate was the Lucid Air Pure, a new addition meant to address the main issue with Lucid cars so far - the steep price. There is no walking away from the fact that Lucid is a luxury brand and yes, it is expensive but the rewards apparently are well worth it. Now the Air Pure makes it a little bit easier to own Lucid - starting at $87,400 for the single motor RWD version.

Interestingly though, that version is not available. No, for now if you want the cheaper Lucid Air Pure, you need to buy the more expensive dual-motor 480 HP version. It looks like the company is trying to avoid a general shock and is easing the public gently into its lower priced models - by selling the more expensive ones first. Certainly a profitable strategy. The production of this dearer version starts next month and the single-motor version will follow in the first half of the next year.

The Air Pure loses out on full-glass roof and the interior is not as plush as on the more pricey models but this is still a Lucid - comfort and room and still plenty of performance. The improved battery delivers class leading 410 miles (660 km) according to EPA. That’s a stunning result for a car that’s nearly 5 meters long - the improved Cd of 0.197 must have something to do with it. In fact the Lucid Air Pure has the best drag coefficient in the world among the luxury production cars.

After the introduction of Air Pure, there was a flurry of other versions re-introduced. The Air Touringmade an appearance with its 620 HP AWD drivetrain and even better range of 425 miles or nearly 684 km - EPA approved. This model lost the all-glass roof as well but it is available as an extra option. The interior comes with improved fabrics and real leather unlike in the Air Pure which uses a synthetic product instead. The Touring starts at $107,400 and the production is already underway with deliveries to follow shortly.

Here’s your first look at the Lucid Gravity, a Model X-rivalling performance SUV

Lucid reckons it’ll have more range than any other EV on sale… apart from its own Air

This is the Lucid Gravity, a new electric performance SUV set to land at some point early in 2023.

And its maker reckons this new car will ‘set new benchmarks’ in the world of luxury, powerful electric SUVs. Anyone familiar with Lucid’s work – like the Air Sapphire saloon capable of 0-60mph in 1.89s – can confirm it knows a thing or two about benchmarks.

Though, we don’t quite yet know what they’ll be. At this stage Lucid has only confirmed the name, that it’ll have “supercar performance”, flexible two- and three-row seating for five, six or even seven adult humans, and promise “more range than any other EV on the market – other than its stablemate, Lucid Air”. (FYI that car recently got a bump in range too, with the entry level ‘Pure’ packing 410 miles of range, right up to 516 miles for the ‘Grand Touring’ model.)

Lucid Air Grand Touring available for immediate delivery

Great news for those who want to jump into a brand-new EV but don’t want to wait for months or even years. Lucid has introduced a new section to its US website called Ready to Deliver. As the name suggests, that section is dedicated for pre-configured cars ready for delivery in days.

The choice of the vehicles for now is limited just to Air Grand Tour, but customers have a choice of 9 different options. The vehicles are available in different colors and with different wheel options and of course interiors as well.

All vehicles are priced at $154,000 without the destination charge, which makes choosing so much easier. With the vehicles available for delivery before the end of this year they all qualify for the EV tax credit of $7,500 under the old rules. The new rules unfortunately won’t apply to Lucid Air since it is simply too expensive.

The straightforward financing option is on the table for those who want to buy Lucid Air right now, 15% down and $1,999 monthly payments for 6 years will get you in the seat. Finally all Lucid Air Grand Tour come with the two-year unlimited charging at Electrify America network.

Lucid Will Call You 14 Times to Try Talking You Out of Canceling Your Order

Leaked emails show Lucid is deeply concerned over customers canceling their orders on the Air performance sedan.

Lucid has been having a bit of trouble. After delivery delays and staffing issues, the company finally started to deliver customer vehicles last fall. But the company still isn’t on track to meet its production goals. Customers may be tired of waiting, and that’s freaking Lucid out, as Business Insider reports: a leaked email shows the startup is implementing an aggressive strategy to keep customers from canceling their orders.

Over the last two months, internal emails and memos show that the company is working hard to keep orders, putting pressure on employees and customers alike. An internal email sent to employees says that “Every cancellation is a failure.”

Speaking to Insider, a Lucid employee outlined what the company expects employees to do to keep customers from canceling their orders. Essentially, it involves bugging the hell out of them. First comes the unnecessary elevation to a case manager when a customer gives word they want their order canceled.

When a customer asks to cancel their order, the request is assigned to a Lucid “case owner,” who must call the customer within 24 hours to “attempt to save” the order. If they don’t reach the customer, they must try calling again three more times on consecutive days.

Then more calls.

Lucid Motors launches recruitment campaign in China

Lucid Motors started its recruitment campaign in China in earnest, following the campaign in May looking for HR people. Now that those have been found the company has expanded the scope. Lucid did not comment on the number of people it is looking to hire, but the information digitization department alone has 14 positions listed.

That department specializes in adapting car’s displays to local markets - in this case it means translating all the information they display to Chinese. That can mean only one thing - Lucid is preparing to enter the Chinese market.

The company is looking to hire specialists from various fields - law, logistics management, hardware engineering, supply chains and retail. This move clearly indicates the company is preparing to start selling its Lucid Air and the upcoming Lucid Gravity vehicles in China.

Lucid Motors always kept the door to China open, from the start the company had Chinese investors with Tsing Capital putting money in as early as 2009. BAIC joined in 2014 and Yuting Jia took part in the round C financing, becoming the largest and second-largest investors, respectively.

Lucid Air Sapphire smokes Tesla Model S Plaid and Bugatti Chiron in quarter mile drag race

Lucid built the Air Sapphire specifically to beat the new Tesla Model S Plaid, and so the big question is - did it succeed? To find out, the folks over at Hagerty Media thought up one of the most insane drag races of all time.

Picture this. A standing quarter mile. The Lucid Air Sapphire. The Tesla Model S Plaid. And the Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport. Ready, set, go!

If you couldn't watch the video, or just like to see outstanding achievements in writing too, here's the nitty gritty of what happened. The Lucid Air Sapphire won, which isn't really that surprising when you consider that it has 180 extra horsepower compared to the Tesla. The Air Sapphire did the standing quarter mile in 9.1 seconds, reaching 156 mph (251 km/h).

The Tesla Model S Plaid came in second, finishing the quarter mile in 9.3 seconds and reaching 152 mph (244 km/h). The Bugatti came in tied with the Tesla in time - 9.3 seconds, and with the Lucid in top speed - 156 mph (251 km/h).

0 to 60 mph (0 to 96 km/h) took the Lucid Air Sapphire 0.03 seconds less than the Tesla Model S Plaid, but they were still recorded as tied at 2.1 seconds. The Chiron managed 2.3 seconds.
