Lumia 1320

Ah, nope not an advert.

Just me being excited to share my experience with the phone.

I did some research on this phone as well as other before updrading, so I thought I'd share my experiences with people in similar positions as I.

:D
Thanks for sharing and if you wish know more of Windows Phone OS then take a look at http://www.wpcentral.com

So interested to hear your feedback! Sounds exactly like the boat I'm in (except I haven't made the leap to a new phone yet)

Biggest deal to me: does it handle gmail, multiple gcals, and Google contacts flawlessly?

Thanks for review. Using Google account on it at all?

Buddy, you can load virtually any email account onto WP.

You cannot use your Gmail account as your set up account though. Much like you can't set up your Android device using any other account other than a Google Account. You need to have a Microsoft account, much like I had to have a Google account when I set up my Android tablet. So, Microsoft account or bust. Its the same everywhere - iOS or Android. I am sure you know that.

The Phone and Me/People apps all pull information from your various accounts. So, all your contacts from Gmail will be in your phone and People apps once you load your Gmail account on the phone. And Gmail and all other email accounts will have their own individual email apps.

I don't have a memory card installed yet. Where does game data install to Phone or Memcard? Can Game data be moved to SD?

Thanks - but if you add a contact or calendar event, will it end up in your Google contacts/calendar?

Thanks - but if you add a contact or calendar event, will it end up in your Google contacts/calendar?

I am not sure about any event but I know that with appointments there is an emailing option for non-Microsoft accounts. I send my appointment notices to my Yahoo! email account and that's how it appears in my Yahoo! account. As for my Outlook calendar, even if I don't send a notice to it via email I will still see it in the Outlook calendar on PC, phone or tablet. I would imagine this is what you are expecting. i.e. that it appears in your Google calendar automatically from a Microsoft account (hence device in this case).

I think you need to understand that operating systems are self serving. The addition to the calendars are automatic within in their own systems. I don't know whether my Outlook calendar would be automatically updated with a new event which I set up on my Android tablet even if I've added my Microsoft account to it. I will try it and see.

But, logically speaking, the automatic update of the event should occur on a Google account/calendar from a Google device, on an Outlook calendar from a Windows device and on an iCloud calendar from an iOS device. They are self serving.

If you want the notice/notification on your Google account from a Microsoft device, there is the option of emailing the notice to your Google email account as you create the event/appointment on a Windows device.

The same for contacts. If you create a contact on your Windows Phone it will certainly appear automatically in your Outlook contacts list. I am not sure if it will appear in your Google Mail account, even if your Gmail account is loaded onto the phone. I'm not sure if a contact I create on my Android device will automatically appear in my Outlook account even if I've loaded my Outlook account onto my Android device.

Update:
Nope. I've created a new contact in my Google account - much the same as creating a new contact on my Android device, and my Outlook account was not updated with the new contact, even though my Gmail account is on my Windows Phone device.

Yes I am using Google on it.

To set up phone, one *must* create a Microsoft account - not unlike creating/logging in with your Google account on an Android device.

But after that, you can create a google or yahoo account.

Once created, you have the option of syncing either contacts or email or calendar or all of them.

So if you stored your phonebook onto google on android, it will get pulled through.

Also, if you add anything in calendar - it also get pushed and/or pulled where that account is also ie. pc/laptop/phone/tablet.

In that respect - similar functionality as with Android. :D

Don't know if it is just coz it is new and shiny to me...but it just feels better...smoother. More polished almost. WP8 i mean.

Your thoughts?

Brucem, I've had the device since Saturday - and it handles gmail brilliantly. Contacts too. Read my reply above in the thread.

I also have multiple gmail accounts synced. No problem.

Hope it helps.

I just notice my flash isn't working I never actually tested it until today. I downloaded. A flashlight app and doesn't come on. Can anyone confirm that the flash works on 8.1. I updated a day after I got the phone so I don't. If it worked previously

Yep definitely works... I use flashlight X on WP8.1

Seems like a factory defect

EDIT: I was informed that the phone needs to be repaired and I'm gonna have to wait 5 weeks
Surely they need to replace it right? I just got the phone last week and the flash never worked.

I think this is where that warranty void thing comes into play?
Not necessarily voiding it but just making it impossible to return.

I like the look and feel of my new Lumia coming from Android.

You clearly notice the lack of app in the store but I found all the app I actually use these day. I dont intend to carry around unused apps like I used to do on Android (Still keeping it). Browsing and battery life was what I was looking for and that why I went for the 1320 but what a total shock it was when I realized you cant upload pics via IE11 browser or that UC Browser ... Geez it's 2014 the last time I had this issue was 8 years ago with a Java based phone. I never actually thought I would run into this issue ever again
