Lumia 920 Thread

I have to use the shutter button. Every time I've tried to touch the screen to take the photo the camera shakes! Perhaps press on the screen, compose and then remove my finger?

Still, it's not very easy to zoom in/out.

Ive only had 1 reboot none since then. One thing i find extremely stupid about the phone or more windows phone 8 is the fact i cant turn off the goddam fking screen rotate.

Got my 920 yesterday. Upgraded from N8. Absolutely loving the phone.

Moved my contacts from the N8 via bluetooth and synced to my Nokia account. Haven't had a reboot yet.

Some issues for me:

Turning off screen rotate
A close/exit button. Either on the screen or in the menu. Very annoying in internet explorer as pressing the back button takes you to the previous page.
SA maps was not on the phone and I could not get Nokia PC Suite to recognise the phone and download the maps. Could only download the map on the phone when I was on wifi.

Now to find a scrren protector

A user earlier on helped me with the exit on the browser,
just click the tabs button, and close that tab. then click back button and you are done.

Please do yourself a favour by downloading the "User Manual" from Nokia RSA support website and READ IT and all of your questions will answered. Nokia RSA Support Link: http://www.nokia.com/za-en/support/product/lumia920/

Thanks but I have read the manual.

Please show me how the reading the manual will address my issues listed above.

1. Turn off screen rotate. Please give the page number indicating how to do this.
2. Not having a close/exit buton on the app or in the context menu in bottom left corner. I know that the back button closes some apps but it is an irritation on internet explorer when you browsing for an hour to press the back button a couple of hundred times in order to close the app. The shortcut method indicated above still takes 3/4 user inputs to close internet explorer.
3. SA Maps was not pre installed. How is reading a user manual going to get around this.
4. Complete maps and map updates can only be downloaded via wifi (Page 63 on the manual). Nokia PC suite does not recognise the phone!

The user manual does not address issues.

Do yourself a favour and read my post correctly.

Thanks for the PM to the user manual :D

1.The screen rotate cannot be switched off.
2. Nokia Suite WILL NOT see this device.
3. Follow the instructions on page 63 and use a WiFi connection (SA Maps 131MB) to download this map to the phone. If this file size was smaller the phone would permit using your 3g connection.
4. Your IE Browsers TABS to clear browsing pages and to close IE use back button.
5. Reading the user manual DOES resolve many of the questions.
So there you are Sir

I did not say I have questions on how to use the device. I said I had ISSUES with the device itself.

1. My ISSUE is that you cannot turn it off. I said this before and not "How do I turn screen rotation off?"
2. My ISSUE is why does Nokia PC Suite not recognise the device NOT how do I get Nokia PC to recognise it as I know it will not.
3. My ISSUE is that I can ONLY use wifi to download SA maps. I should be able to choose if I want to make use of mobile data or not. I have over 4gigs of data on my my mobile and its much more faster to download over HSDPA than on my 2MB/s iBurst connection at home over wireless.
4. My ISSUE with this is that its not the ideal way to close internet explorer. I did not ask how how to close it.
5. I know how to USE my device and I never asked a question on how to use it. I have ISSUES with some of the functionality or lack thereof.

I don't think you have any comprehension skills.
So there you are Sir.

@Signates
We can play "ping pong" games on this forum all we want, I tried to assist as best I could. At times it is better call someone and speak about the issues at hand to avoid confusion. This a Windows Phone 8 OS thus differs vast from OS like Android,Symbian or Apple. It never be made to work with Nokia Suite as this an WP8 OS.
I certainly do not have to time and patience to teach you how to use your new WP8 OS device. Teaching yourself always works best. If you have issues then return the device for one you do not have issues with.
Thank you Sir

Sorry but I did not ask for any help on how to USE my phone. I love this phone and would not have chosen any other one.

I was providing some constructive criticism/feedback on what I find problematic or have issues with in its current form. I know what kind of phone this is but you are only insulting your own intelligence by your comments.

I don't see the point of this thread if I cannot raise my ISSUES in here as it is dedicated to the 920. You sound like a typical fanboy not wanting to here any negative feedback on a product and if there are any it must be the user's fault as they should have read the User Manual.

Maybe you should start a "Lumia 920 - How To" thread and reply to every single question in "Please download the User Manual in order for you to properly use your phone"

Is anyone having a problem copying text on the 920?

I can select one word at a time. I get the bubbles at the end of the word but cant drag them to expand the selection? I've been trying now for 30 minutes with no luck.

i don't seem to have the problem you are experiencing.

where does this not work? Email, websites, sms?

Did you read the manual. D)

I strongly recommend asking ivanr about using whatsapp :)

The copy function is not great on the phone, i struggle to drag or expand the bubbles as well.

In a few places it's a bit tricky, but generally works fine. @zhsa, where are you copying text from?

Was speaking to a friend that has an S3 yesterday and he said his battery was terrible with 3G on (this also drains the 920, and pretty much any other phone), so what he does is force it to use 2G (edge). I've tested on my 920, and edge is fast enough to still get push notifications and emails, plus uses way less battery (I haven't had time to see how much effect it has on the 920 yet though).

Careful with the Edge, with my last phone (Galaxy S1) only certain push notifications would work. Not sure how it will work on a lumia but I used to end up getting 20 notifications for whatsapp like an hour later unless I was in the app. But only sometimes, other times it worked perfectly.

On a side not is anyone having issues with the music player app? (not Nokia music). I find its not always picking up the headphones (i.e. playing straight to loud speaker) or adjusting the volume of the music. Or another thing is it starts playing music once you remove the headphones.

Oh also have not had another random reboot since the last post.

So far it's seemed fine. Notifications haven't been coming through in "clumps". But will carry on monitoring.

Nope haven't had that - but I don't use headphones much. I generally only play music to my JBL speaker.

Anyone having blue tooth issues?
I cant' seem to connect with anything -tried win7 pc, and old phone (those both connect fine to each other)
Any bootstrap workarounds?

(it is a know issue with wp8 -and fixed in porto update - which is not available here)

OK I figured it out. Its one of the apps that has a bug (Password Padlock). Copy and Paste works fine in the other apps.

no issues with music player, but, something odd is that the music player always shows as "paused".
When I click on the paused, it takes me to whatsapp? Odd, but nothing serious

That's how whatsapp works when your on WiFi. Makes the phone believe it's streaming music so it can keep the WiFi connectivity on. Haven't seen this with 3g on my end.
