Lumia 920 Thread

Hi Roguemat,

How do you find your yellow, non-matt/glossy phone?

I've been debating getting this phone, either in white (non-matt/glossy) or black (matt)?

I've held a friends black one, but haven't seen any of glossy ones?

Is it slippery to hold (even with just finger tips, and when hand is bone dry/ or very sweaty)?

Does the phone do quite a bit of ghost moves - supposedly if you put it facedown on the screen, it often slides off what ever surface its on (and fall down)?

Thanks!
K

I had a matt 900, and compared to that I much prefer the gloss (regardless of color). I thought I would not like the gloss much, but it gives it a more "expensive" feeling. I haven't had it sliding anywhere, but that might be because it's only really ever on my table, in my pocket, or in my car.
In terms of holding it, it's not much different to the matt.

Just wondering how happy most of you are with the Lumia's options to the user? I upgraded to a Lumia 920, and hated the WP8, I found the normal options from the IOS very limiting. My N8 had more options available to me in one menu

I swapped it for a S3, and I am very happy. Been a Nokia user since the first Nokia banana shaped phone came out....untill now

How did you manage to swop it?

my apps dont automatically check if there are updates for them on the store.
I have to manually go to the store, and see if there is a newer version. Any idea on how to fix this?

Also, is there an app that lets you adjust volume per notification (IE have a ring volume at a certain level, sms volume at a certain level, email etc)

Is your store pinned to start?
It should check about once per day, plus updates take a while to propagate to all the servers.
So if you read that app X has an update on WPCentral, you will need to wait up to two days before the store will tell you about it.

Yeah, its definitely pinned to start. Have un-pinned and re-pinned it.
Odd, it used to work properly, but has now just stopped.

Will investigate and see if I can find a reason

Happened to me on my Lumia 610 as well. It seems fixed after my recent flashing fiasco caused me to recover my phone (and basically start from scratch). Never got to the bottom of it.

Moan of the day. No-one has a L920 to sell me straight. Vodacom don't have it in the online shop, and the local Vodashop can't find any info and promise to get back to me ... but still waiting for their last promised "we'll get back to you" more than a month ago.

Vodacom seems to be doing this to me aswell. You called Nokia directly? Know they have stock and a couple of the colours aswell.

I got mine from Vodacom Shop Menlyn 2 days ago. Ordered it and waited 3 days in the colour I wanted :)

There is a girl there called Mandi, who's been very helpful and made sure she called me as soon as they received the phone. Realy can't complain!

Upgraded from a Nokia N8 to the Lumia 920 and I must say, I am very impressed! This phone is so smooth and lightning fast.

So far I've had no issues with regards to the phone rebooting and the battery lasts about a day and a half with me playing with it the whole day as you do with a new toy :)

Many apps are already available like Dropbox, Skype, Shazam, WhatsApp and Youtube and they all work great. The Nokia exclusive apps are all excellent like Nokia City Lens (which works great), Nokia Drive, Cinemagraph, Creative Studio etc. Internet Explorer is very fast and opens websites with ease.

There's a nice app for people who use the Gautrain, which gives you timetables, routes and costs.

Really love this phone so far.

Got mine a a TopUp 315 (upgrade) in red.

Feels solid, very shiny and the display is crystal clear and very sensitive.

I got used to the OS quickly and it's very easy to navigate.

I'll upload some photos taken with the phone later tonight :)

How much was the pay-in if you got in on Top-Up?
