Lumia 920 Thread

Bit the bullet, emptied the wallet for the next 24 months and upgraded to my new L920 Black from MTN yesterday!

Steep learning curve form my old Nokia 6710 Navigator, but lovng it. Had to purchase a new sim card and it's still not activated after 17 hours :-(

Awesome, congrats! I just cut my old SIM to the right size, works like a charm!

Damn, the MTN lady said that if they cut it, it will cut into the actual circuit. But then, my sim was over ten years old, 16k or whatever the early sims were, so it was due for an update!

Finally went live at 10am this morning and have had great fun playing with it ever since. Nightmare transfering the old contacts, calendar entries and messages, but got there in the end.

Just have to get used to all the extra key strokes to make a call, unlock the phone, etc. But the split between Maps and Drive does take a lot of getting used to ...

From now on though, all that stuff is synced to your Microsoft account, so you can login to anyphone and all your stuff will be there.

p.s. Also cut mine. You have to cut half a mm from the side of the chip, so it is close, but you don't touch it.

I also struggled a bit, but then used Nokia Suite to transfer the stuff to Skydrive and then import it to my Lumia.

Bluetooth would also have worked, but I never thought about that till after ;p

I used a combination of Bluetooth, Outlook and Windows Phone PC software.

I Bluetoothed all my contacts from the old phone to the new, quck and easy. Only then did I see the Nokia Transfer app on the 920! At least with that app I could then transfer my SMSs.

My callendar was a bit of an issue. I first had to export the calendar on the old phone to my laptop. I then imported it to MS Outlook. From Outlook I once again exported it and then imported it into Hotmail. I then went online from my 920 and synced it. I'm pretty certain there is an easier way!

Photos and other documents were just transfered from my laptop to the phone via the downloaded Windows Phone PC software and cable. I suppose that could have been Bluetoothed as well.

Not the most elegant of solutions, but we got there in the end.

So to those that had a Win7.5 device, how vast are the differences between your old phone and your WinPhone 8 device?
Was it really worth the upgrade?

Found an awesome forum app. Board express . Currently posting from the app. Looks pretty good so far.

Yes, absolutely. There are so many small things (besides the big obvious ones) that make it awesome-er. I couldn't go back.

I'm not sure what I am doing differently to you guys? I haven't had a reboot once.
I'm using all the usual apps like Whatsapp, FB, Drive+ etc, so what else do you have installed?

p.s. The one difference is that my device is from Dubai.

Got my 920 a few minutes ago, can't wait to play with it tonight.
Anybody got an easy way to take all your info from Android over to Windows 8?
