Lumia Black Update

Nice, like the notifications on the glance screen, and being able to close apps :)

Ditto for me, plus the fact that you can now go straight to Nokia Camera app when pressing the camera button without first having to enter the lock screen password.

Are there any other major changes? Been using the black update on my 920 and its been fine so far. Didn't know that about being able to go straight to the nokia camera without having to unlock, thats a great change for me. Glanc screen is also way more useful for me, almost covers the missing notification area for my usage.

Anyone noticing changes to battery life? I'm currently using the phone in Toronto on the Fido network now and saw that LTE battery life seemed to be worse, around 15% drain an hour at least so switched to 3G only and its much better.

Love the glance screen, but I suspect it will drain the battery quicker.

My battery seems to last significantly longer (3G only), but I do have a fertile imagination.

Received my lumia black update last night on my 920 bought from orange store, I'm on Telkom mobile and network seems to be good.

General
battery life 2G > 3G > 4G

Also all active data connections seem to chow battery on the Nokia (like an 1hr long whatapp convo 15+% battery drain).

With the update i'm getting 24hrs+ battery life, which seems better by few hours than before.

Most peculiar, according to the availability page it's available for Vodacom, MTN and country variant. It's only the 620 and 625 at Vodacom that's still outstanding. What model and provider do you have?

720 on Vodacom.
Will see what the latest version is using NSU when I get home.

EDIT : Found the update on NSU. 1.33gb download. Fathers L920 hasn't received it via OTA though.

I have to admit that the Black Update made my 920 a lot worse!

Problems I'm having:
Auto Brightness doesn't work anymore, only manual low, medium & high.
Glance doesn't work - flashes for a second and then dead. Doesn't matter what options I try.
Can't use my camera to scan QR codes anymore - goes back to the home screen when selecting vision from search.
Double tap to wake also doesn't work.
Blocking apps from background doesn't keep settings, after while they reset back to allowed.

Tried everything, from hard reboot to phone reset without backup restore, nothing!
My photos also look worse, but that might just be because I'm unhappy with my phone atm.
Anybody else having the same problems and/or solutions?

@DearHeart - I'm trying to find out where the closest Nokia service centre is atm. I work in Sunninghill, and on Nokia's Website the closest care centre looks like SmartLab in Sandton. Will try to get hold of someone there and see what they can do.

Took the phone in today to be check out.
Booked in, can take anything from 3-15 days to be repaired (or replaced)
Will have to wait and see.

Thanks, but tried that before taking the phone in p52mustang. Nokia Care Chat Agent told me to download it on Tue and try but it didn't work.

But update: Got sms yesterday that the phone is ready. Got there this morning and guess what, nothing changed. The "Genius" re-flashed the firmware aka the same thing I did before taking it in. Having wasted 2 hours in the morning traffic I was livid. When asked to speak to the "Genius" they called the head guru/manager as he checked my phone. Agreed that there is something wrong and that the "Genius" didn't test. Phone is now on its way to Nokia SA-HQ/importers/technical support/whatever-the-name for them to check for hardware fault. Strange that the Black update causes a hardware failure, but whatever. If the can't find the fault the are sending a new phone, or so the manager says.

*Replace "Genius" with whatever swearword comes up first in your mind.

Stuff happens @SA. A salesman in a Vodacom shop told me the other day that the Lumias on display are only "dummies". not actual working phones (not the display cases with stickers on, the real thing...). Another guy told me to go to "GS Marena" website where I can find a lot of information about cellphones, after some head scratching I figured he meant gsmarena.com ;0) I think it points out a overall training issues. Now keep on phoning the manager until you have a replacement :(

Guys, I see there is finally a SW update available on my L625 now. The obvious assumption is that it is the Black update.

What I'd like to know is how huge MB-wise the update is. I only have 1.5GB for the entire month on my phone. If its too big it means I'll have to download it on a WiFi network.

I'd really appreciate your responses.
