M-Net lashes out at SABC proposal

typical SABC style. They have no backbone whatsoever! Not very big on soccer, but I know they have always struggled to show live matches before. And the also love repeating old matches...

They rather show that filthy Generations rather than cross live to a match and still have the audacity to make such demandS

ROLMAO: Generations is the highest rated show on SA television by miles...and makes a bucketload of money for the SABC.

On the football issue, they're clearly clutching and straws...if Supersport bought the rights two years ago what are they still talking about "rights". Or are the SABC trying to change the rules mid-way through the game, it seems so.

I think the SABC are a bunch of useless prats, who haven't justified their licence fees in ten years

I know, but still think its trash, besides there two repeats daily and that diabolical Saturday omnibus

And yeah, Supersport spent money to get the current setup, so the SABC should understand that this is business and that being a "public" entity does not give them the license to be spoiled!

Nah, this is a ama-chancer move by the SABC...they probably need to justify all the money that's been thrown at them by government.

And why not?

This is our chosen broadcaster for our country. We do pay them TV license money and we're not getting much for that.

I think that giving SABC exclusivity to soccer would be absolutely awesome.

This way they can double, nay trebel the price of the TV license, and hand out 7 bonuses to their employees and pat themselves on the back for a job well done with absolutely no competition in sight. And, other broadcasters will have to pay SABC whatever fee's SABC feels like charging to use their material.

Because SABC has direct ownership of everything that happens in this and any other country in the world, in fact, before you make a movie of yourself, you had better go purchase the rights from the SABC board first.

Or ...

Multichoice can agree to charge an non distorted fee for the material.

Kind of stuck between a Rock and a Black Hole hey ... just cos SABC could not plan.

i dunno about u guys but mnet/multichoice is buying up a lot of content in 'exclusive' deals which particularly for sporting is a crap thing and yah their prices are sick too. While an exclusive deal with sabc is silly i do however believe certain events/sport things should not be allowed to have exclusivity on it.

Actually "7de Laan" is afaik.

Really how do you know this?

As far as i know blacks out number afrikaaners 9-1 if not more, so i highly doubt 7de laan could even come close to amount of people watching generations. I may be wrong but i highly it.

The comments link for the article says: "M-Net versus M-Net - give your views" ??

1 Generations
2 Muvhango
3 7de laan

Last time i saw numbers,Generations had double the numbers of 7de laan.

why are you people worrying about Soaps? i love soccer. My life itself consists of Generations, Muvhango, Isidingo, 7de Laan ect. i was so happy when Supersport bought those soccer rights. because SAbc had those rights before, but they never made full use of them. so when the rights were won by SS3-4 they started crying wihle they know that they fed us the whole time with Generations and other crab. i wish i could go live on e-Tv and direct a vulgar word at the SABC

Transkei

Living in the Transkei for past 15 years, it is unfortunate that SS3/4 have these "exclusive" rights, as most people cannot afford dstv, and their passion sport is soccer.

These are the people that are going to suffer from this.

I do agree that SABC seem to stuff their opportunities up, but their should be some ruling on "exclusive" rights.

Maybe the bidder for the bigger portion of rights may be allowed to take in 10 camera crews, and the lower bidders only 5 crews. (for example).

SABC can then make their money from filming the games from advertisements, yet not being able to give the same game viewing quality as the greater bidder.

DSTV are only wanting to get more subscribers by holding the rights.

why can't SABC and Supersport broadcast the same things?

Has anyone noticed the difference in quality on a SD decoder between SABC and Supersport.

The SABC is a joke, as are most of the guavamunt/parastatal organisations in SA.
They charge the consumer a fee whether your watch their crap or not, then they provide massive bonuses and send their execs on overpriced trips overseas for no reason and with no justification.
On top of that, they're the guavamunts advertising campaign for their propaganda.
What a waste.
