M-Net open time to close

I find it amusing that people actualy watch this 'soapies drivel'. I suppose diff strokes for diff folks. (just kidding)

Jeez - Open Time wass still going ?
heh - haven't watched that for about 3 years or more.
I remember when it first launched - correct me if I'm wrong here, but it was April 1983 wasn't it ?

Ah well, can't say I give a damn, TV is cr@p anyway - the series that are good get released on DVD so I just rent um :D

As for local TV - p00p. Egoli is brain numbingly bad TV and as such, is easy to get addicted to ... I remember being addicted to the most banal series ever released - neighbours (all the way from Australia, mate)

ha ha ha couldnt have said it better BB !i used to watch airwolf and knight rider , now when i see those re-runs i cannot blv it !

I dunno, I'm sure MNET was around in 1984/3...

About Neighbours, bb_matt please tell me you never watched :eek:Eastenders...

M-net came out somewhere in '87. There were articles in the YOU magazine back in '86 about it though, with a "see what's coming" approach.

I am surprised they didn't axe open time of their own accord. M-net have been trying to push people to go over to Dstv for a long time- away from the analogue system

If I got to choose the channels I wanted then I'd fork out the extra dosh & get DSTV installed on Monday [I'm busy tomorrow ;)], but since there's obviously some obstruction in the brains of MNET/Multichoice that prevents them giving me the option to decide what I want...well they can fill in the blanks...

Subscription television platform M-Net will lose its two-hour, free-to-air Open Time window as of April 1, 2007

WAS it just me who noticed the date that has been set...

Ok - three possiblities:

1. Mass rioting - no one will accept this (MyTV is formed)
2. Open Times shows start showing on 'free' channels by public demand
3. Mnet / DSTV gets cheaper

I think one of those things has to happen :)

Couple the loss of open time with the opening of the market place and it will have to be 3 if they want to fight off the inevitable competition. Most of the overseas shows shown during open time these days will probably be off the air by 2007 anyway so who's to say what channel will pick up what show.

Too bad we're more likely to be seeing additional satellite providers instead of cable tv. They could take on MultiChoice and Telkom in one go like they're going to do in the states. All-in-one entertainment, internet and telephone packages that make me want to weep.
