Mac OS X Mountain Lion launch date announced

I never upgraded to Lion from SL. Lot's of software that used to work in SL doesn't work on Lion. I wonder if they sorted this out with ML?

I know my Mac Pro 1,1 can't run it anyway.

Really hoping this won't be as bad as Lion. I was very disappointed with the iOSificiation of OS X, apparently this goes even further in that direction  Guess I'll find out tonight...

Unlikely, with Apple you either adapt or get left behind.

Lion is such a POS, its been backward since 10.6. I dont have much hope for the new version.

Apple has said that Mountain Lion introduces over 200 features including a new messages app, notification center, system-wide sharing, Facebook integration and dictation.

I'm looking forward

What happened to the Mac fanboys? Noramlly there is never a bad word about Apple.
I thought all the Mac people would welcome the new OS.

I loved the macs until Lion arrived, what a disappointing OS that has turned out to be. Credit where its due and this is not one of those places. Seems they have really tried to ruin what was an excellent OS in Snow Leopard.

We loved it when it was good, now it is not as good as we expect it to be. Trouble with setting a high standard.

Ever thought that there might have been a valid reason for the fanboism?

I will pass. I note that many users share my sentiment. As an ardent Apple fanboy, I REALLY tried hard to switch over to the full Apple ecosystem. I replaced all my computers and laptops with Apple. After many frustrating months, I have reverted to Windows (bootcamp) and I could not be happier. Apple makes great hardware but their computer OS is a joke. Period. It is everything that Apple does not stand for. It is not user friendly, it is cumbersome and most software does not work with it. Even Office for Mac users complain about integration issues. I am beginning to switch back to Windows and I just bought the Asus Zenbook Prime instead of the new Air. Their weak operation system had a great deal to do with this. It is expecially disappointing, considering their excellent iOS software.

I've had zero problems with Lion, in fact I really enjoyed the upgrade and miss features when I'm using older machines still on 10.6. I've done a complete backup so when ML hits I'm ready for the upgrade.

I bought my first Apple because of the OS. For my purposes, I still find OS X to be superior to anything else, although I have been somewhat unenthusiastic since Snow Leopard. If I had to ditch Apple, I'd still rather go back to Ubuntu than Windows.

I must say that I was kind of dissapointed in Lion. I started with snow leopard, which was lovely and fast. Lion ate up my resources.

I'm just hoping that mountain lion can make a number of speed improvements in the OS. that, and hope my 4GB RAM chips get here from america soon.

I must say that I'm happy with the 20 dollar upgrade price. considering microsoft wanted 200 for windoze 7 pro (not even ultimate, their premium version).

Agreed.

Hope so, download done (at times peaking @ 11MB/s). Here goes nothing, just going to gooi the upgrade, no backups or anything.

EDIT: All looking good, only my Vodafone Mobile Client was identified as incompatible.

Tried it too. Installed it on my hackintosh first as there is'nt much on it that needs backing up. It works just great. Not sure what the fuss is all about. It seems faster than Lion and SL ... and most of my software works. The software that does not needs updating anyway. Will do the Mac Pro next when work slows down a bit to allow for the backup and install procedure. I prefer to install from scratch. Upgrading always seems to inherit problems.

It can. Netkas (of hackintosh fame) on netkas.org has released a 64-bit efi emulator which allows the Mac Pro 1,1 & 2,1 to run ML. The processors on those machines are powerful enough... you will have to upgrade your graphics card though. ML has no support for graphics cards that old. read remarks posted from someone who gave it a bash and he reckons it works fine. First time I've ever heard of hackintoshing a Mac, but if it works, why not.

I really don't understand all the negativity around Lion and ML as the majority of OSX still remains the same.

Sure Lion has some areas that could have been better, but overall it has imo been a great step forward. With ML, which I have been testing for quite a while, many of the Lion issues have been improved... overall I believe another solid release on the solid OSX framework.

Btw SL --> Lion terminated support for the old Rosetta powerpc frameworks... yet it didn't bother me personally, never found anything of real value in old apps.
