Sure, but I can walk into the store and pay cash......
And I prefer to deal with someone that I can actually go to. I'm prepared to spend that little extra for my own peace of mind.

Cape Town is spoiled for choice when it comes to apple - you guys have some decent resellers.

True, but the support is not what it should be - even here in Cape Town. Don't for one moment think that the guys in the Apple store knows anything about Apple products beyond the basics.

Service and support in SA sucks. I find (or is that don't find) it everywhere.

Support / after sales service is a big thing for me, especially for an expensive product.

Can one only buy from local guys (SA Apple) or can you order from overseas as well (but then you will probably pay import, customs, duties, etc.)

You'll pay VAT and shipping costs.

Apple laptops carry an international warranty, but not their desktop machines. The Intel iMacs look like good value if you're not after ultimate performance.
