Mac versus PC

Macs are nice simplified pretty looking computers for people who require that from their systems.

I dunno about pretty. Look at WinXP Fishe-Price. Look at Vista.
Not purdy? Flip3D?
None of that cr@p in Mac OS X.

A PC of course will bench press a Mac under the table any day.. but people dont buy a Mac for performance.. they buy it cause it looks pretty and they can understand the OS.

Yeah the Dell Quad Core Xeon 3GHz which actually cost more than the Mac Pro of the same specs, benchpressed the PC. First of all try to get Adobe Premiere or AE to use more than 25% available CPU resources. Secondly try to get them to use more than 1GB of RAM.

Or do you have proof that the Dell running WinXP is faster than a similar spec'ed Mac with Mac OSX?

A Mac is stylish and simplistic and suites its users. Its also over over priced and limited, but again.. people who buy Macs dont care about the price, or dont care about performance.

Stylish - maybe for some simple people, same lot who goo oooh and aaaah over a Fossil Watch or a pair of Levis.

Yeah I don't care about performance and price. Using a PC, with Adobe Premiere Pro and a Matrox RTX Extreme card (plus a 3D GPU card) it would take forever to render stuff or PC would freeze and die. Similar Mac does it
faster and without crashes. Is it worth the money, well actually the Matrox RT Extreme cost R30K (incl Premiere) at the time. The PC itself cost R15K. The Mac Pro cost R30K plus R8K for FCP. Both used 1GB of RAM (at the time).

Wiz is not on the ball. Religion and Macintosh computers are not his forte.

You can run the same cr@p under Bootcamp that you run under Windows.

Sorry guys for serious video edits (that CNN and BBC use) Mac OSX is No 1.
Windows is ....GARBAGE.

Well, I dunno about "serious"...but a friend of mine does TV ads quite happily in Windows. (He's done so for years - he was doing multithreaded rendering under NT in the days before Macs had pre-emptive multitasking, and writing articles about it in graphics magazines).

Yeah, the PC looks worse, and they're running different apps.
The Mac can run the same 3D game in high res as it has the
same video cards available and you can run Windoze either
natively or via emulation.

Er...most of the games aren't available for MacOs, so they won't be running the same game.

I dont use Vista or XP, my OS reflects me :P

Pff Peter. Before chomping on that carrot carefully read what I said. I didnt say similar spec`d hardware from a PC out performs a MAC, I said PC`s out perform Mac. IE. If I get the best PC, and the best MAC, the best PC will kick the Mac to CPU cycle death.

Im glad it works for you in your very niche market. \

Simply put. ****. Why the fk do you have to bring religion into everything? Seriously you are sick man, and you better report this post otherwise its ganna stick. Luckily. your opinion means as much to me as a gooses fart. You threw away your credibility a long time ago in the PD section. You can check that on Encarta as well. I hate liars.

Leave religion where its ment to be. Out of site of the rest of the forum.

You do know that Apple officially supports running Windows on their Intel HW?
It's called Bootcamp and you can dual boot your machine into Windows.

Why would I report this post? You're not harassing me. And I was just kidding about the religion thing. But seriously, do you use Mac computers? :)

I was blind like you once, until I turned to the Mac. :)

As for calling a video editing app most video editors (home and pro) use
around the world, including the BBC and CNN, a niche market, I dunno.
Maybe it's niche but it proves that Macs have the performance and the power over PCs in something which requires CPU cycles. :)

AFAIK the appeal of a Mac is both the machine itself and the OS yes?
So the mere fact that Mac now supports Windows goes to show they're trying very hard to get more users, given that they losing a lot to Windows. And after your diss of XP/Vista/Flip 3D etc earlier, this perhaps isn't the best selling point you could've chosen :p

They support it so that people can use Windoze for games or other applications. However most users don't use this feature, I don't for example. I use VMWare Fusion
about <1% of the time.

You do know that in a recent test a MacBook Pro was rated the fastest Windows laptop around?

Yes but the fact they need to support Windows shows that their OS doesn't service the full needs it's users

People who criticise Macs, haven't really used them. They just go on and on with their preconceived opinions.

Totally Pete, ure completely right. None of those pesky Mac critics have used a mac.

Haha, I'm inclined to agree.
I had a 24" widescreen iMac. Thing of beauty to look at but that's pretty much where it ended.

It was a Core2 (can't remember exact processor) with 2gb RAM and I could NEVER run more than one Adobe program at a time.
My 3.4ghz Pentium with 1gb RAM at home didn't blink an eye. So that's proof enough for me.

Macs are beautiful machines and the OS is fun to play with. Perhaps I'm just too used to a PC. But if the Mac lived up to it's price, I'd consider one

Haha, everytime you start losing, you fall on the ground and start kicking your feet.
I used a Mac for 2 years and I'll still take my PC any day of the week.

Why can't you just like your Mac and I'll just like my PC?
Seriously dude grow up

I use a PC and a Mac and both are great but Macs have definite advantages.

Start loosing?

Do a Google on Final Cut Pro and see what people say about it.

Please don't put words into my mouth and resorting to insults shows
that you're loosing.

Macs > PC (overall and in graphics, video, photo) work. :)

What was the reason for switching to PC?

I gave mine.

PC with or without Matrox RTX Extreme and Premiere Pro and XP Pro
sucked vs Mac OSX Tiger and FCP WITHOUT any additional rendering
hardware.

Also my PCs tend to freeze and bluescreen more often than my
Mac Pro. In fact my Mac Pro only ever froze because of a stick
of bad RAM. Replacing that has solved the problem. Running the
same OS (that is updated with Leopard) since Intel Mac Pros came out.

In that time I had to reinstall XP x3.

I'm glad you love your Mac so much... I really am.
I love my PC just as much. [/arguement]

PS> If I really was insulting you, you wouldn't be able to respond :p

Yep. But then it's not exactly a Mac, is it? It's Windows on Apple hardware.

I've used both for video editing (Adobe Premiere and Final Cut Pro), and honestly if you've seriously used a Mac (not looked at it) you wouldn't want to use a PC again.

Maybe but it discredits that cartoon showing a Mac running a low intensity
game at 8fps and the PC running some HD 3D game with photorealistic graphics. A Mac can run Windoze and Mac OSX. A PC can only run Windoze.

I agree, I'm actually on YOUR side :).
