Hi guys,

A disc is stuck in the drive. I have tried holding down the mouse and the eject button etc as recommended on the web. iStore wants to book it in for 10 days max to re-seat the drive. Do you guys have a link on how to do this i.e. open up the unit and re-seat the drive, then remove the disc.

you did try and turn the computer off and on again? i once got my imac's DVD stuck then once the pc started it just ejected the disc.

How brave are you?
somewhat:
Did the above tips not work to eject the disk? If a DVD is completely stuck in the MacBook / MacBook Pro drive and it’s still spinning, you can also try this trick: get a small piece of thin cardboard (business card or a credit card works fine too) and insert it above the stuck DVD and press down slightly to stop the disk from spinning, now reboot the MacBook while holding down the trackpad button and you should hear the familiar eject sound, then disk should come right out. Be careful not to damage the disk or your drive though!

very:
If I stick a DVD with a paper label into the DVD drive of my MBP, it always gets stuck.
I've leaned how to open the case, lift up the DVD drive, and by shorting two pins together (while the system is powered up) get the DVD to eject.
On my MBP, there is such a narrow slot for the DVD, that the paper label on a DVD will scrape against the opening of the DVD slot.
When I eject the DVD, the system "thinks" its gone, so the tricks to eject on startup and force ejection don't work.
I suppose if I didn't learn how to open up the case, I'd have to take it to the Apple Store to get the DVD out.
I've just stopped putting DVDs with paper labels in my system.

Shut down your Mac.

Power on your Mac while holding down the option key.

When the Boot Manager appears, it will display all bootable drives.

Press and hold the eject key. The stuck CD or DVD should come flying out of the optical drive.

Once the CD or DVD is ejected, you can use your mouse to click on the drive you want to boot from, and then finish booting.
This trick works because your Mac doesn't check to see if there is any media in the optical drive at the Boot Manager screen; it just performs the eject command.

Just want to make sure if you tried:

-Shut down
-Turn on
-While screen is black press trackpad button

...

You can also try pressing F12...

OR

- Open TERMINAL
- type: drutil eject

http://macs.about.com/od/usingyourmac/qt/eject-stuck-media-terminal.htm

will try that TERMINAL command later

another option to try.

thx guys

if all else fails and you are brave, gently slide a curved business card or something similar into the drive slot (top side of disc).
as you hear it come into contact with the disc apply slight pressure until you hear the disc stop spinning, within moments of the disc coming to a standstill it gets spat out (macbook pro anyway)

Tried that before as well. No luck. Gonna open it tomorrow.

It doesn't have the little hole to push a straightened out paper clip into?

If you're still under warranty, use the istore if you cannot eject this using standard mechanisms. You don't want to inadvertently cause damage that the istore will refuse to fix under warranty. Btw if you take it to the istore repair centre yourself it usually goes quickly, in most cases while you wait.

Otherwise if outside warranty look at the ifixit tutorials if you want to try this yourself.
