Well, we not talking about the home market - those Americans get everything cheap cheap - but us South Africa's *** bricks at new stuff. Hence why Apple Mac are not a good investment here - at least, not for those of us that enjoy building our own machines ^^
icyrus was in the post w1z4rd was replying to so yes, we were.
Also, considering the longevity associated with the hardware, claiming they're not still a good investment, even though they cost more locally, is debatable.

Well, I meant I wasn't talking about the home markets when I started the thread

I like to continuously improve my PC, can't do that with a Mac (takes only specific hardware, like RAM or something I've heard?).

So I could open it up, change the CPU/Motherboard/Ram/GFX/Add(Remove) Hdd's etc etc?

Not sure about the MB but you can upgrade the cpu, ram, GFX, hdds, etc in to varying degrees depending on the model.

And that's why I'm not a Mac fan, lol - even though they look so cool!
I like to go into a pc store, check out the cpu's and go: ok .. socket xxx, speed xx, quad core/dual core .. wham bam thank you ma'am - go home install it, cry about how crappy Windows XP is while reinstalling it so it accepts the new hardware and then shpeel
- not a fan of "oook .. cpu .. i want this .. but doe sit match that model of that board of that release?" etc etcMaybe I'll change my tune when I've actually tried using a Mac? I don't know, and I'm willing to have my mind changed - but until that time; standard PC's are for me

ah .. ok .. mmm .. well, still open to change - guess im just not happy with the price 
lol... so here's my 2 cents:
Macbook air is very cool for executives that already have a desktop machine. (ie macbook air piggy backs off other machines OD, hence the reason they don't need one)
If you're someone that travels a lot and all you ever do is read and reply to mail, a bit of word/Excel and internet browsing then Macbook Air makes sense.. its compact, light and almost always gets a cool reaction from clients before a meeting starts...
As somebody said earlier.. Macbook Air caters to a VERY niche market, and i think it does so very well..
My only grip with the macbook air is the lack of a Firewire port. As a technician, this is an invaluable tool on a mac!
And finally..
I'd rather pay the extra for a Mac just so that I can use leopard.. after 20 years of windows, panther->tiger->leopard has been a breath of fresh air!
...Oh and If i were apple I'd add a slot for a SIM card and then have built-in HSDPA in the Macbook Air.

I still want to try Apple's OS .. Unfortunately I'm still stuck on Windows while Linux can go swim in a pond for all I care lol
That's a cute little thing isn't it? I particularly like the touchscreen feature; very cool - and you save $401 compared to the MacBook Air - I'd rather buy that, than the Air.

The fact that the Macbook Air has no DVD drive is a big downer. People will say - "Oh its for those who don't need one." but seriously, if Kohjinsha can
get it right (and the Japanese are known for minimalism, aesthetics and function over features) then you start thinking that Apple didn't try hard enough to get a DVD burner in there. Having an external DVD burner not only
costs more but above all it defeats the purpose of such a lightweight device. One may as well get an MSI Wind or an EEE PC for 1/4 of the price.
Then again now that I'm using my Panasonic more, I realised how cheaply made the Apple MBP's are in comparison. And the machine I'm typing on is
very light. It's also the most popular laptop with Japanese execs.

Ever since I upgraded to Leopard, I've had intermittent shut down problems with my Mac Pro. The Mac just refuses to shut down, Finder disappears
and the wallpaper remains and you wait and wait and go away and come
back and its still like that, till you press the Power button and it finally shuts
down (albeit in a non-elegant manner). I have all my apps and Leopard
updated and use only Apple certified memory and premium HDs (Seagate).
Oh I like MacOSX but I still get these intermittent issues which I don't like
considering that Apple make the OS and the hardware (and most of the software I run is Apple Pro stuff) - its inexcusable.

Sound like you got a dodgy installation of leopard... see if any of the Apple Resellers can help you out.. I know most of the guys at Digicape in JHB and I can vouch for them.. they know what they are doing!
I had to use an HP machine running XP for 2 weeks while my Macbook Pro Was replaced.. in the first 10 mins, it crashed twice randomly restarted once, and refused point blank to connect to a simple open Wifi network.. how do people work like that???

Did you do a clean install or an upgrade and migration?
