Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. Is there much difference between Apple's US and UK keyboards? My UK keyboard looks more like a mix between UK and US PC keyboards: The Pipe/backslash button is next to Return, and it has a £ sign...

There are a few differences. The main difference between my MBP and Powerbook is the return key - completely different shape.

I've learned to deal with this nasty MS UK keyboard at work, so the Return shape doesn't bother me any more. I just miss the hash key on my Mac, but I've learned to deal with that too.

#!/bin/bash just takes that little bit longer tho...

I think it's option+4 - can't remember and I'm not on my Mac at the moment - can't translate between normal memory and muscle memory

Doesn't really matter, I can make it just fine. It's just quicker on a US PC keyboard.
