I am going to vodacom tomorrow, and I am getting my first Mac. To say I am excited and over the moon is a massive understatement.
Any way, They are offering the white Macbooks and the 20inch Imac. I was wondering as a photographer and a prosumer of video editing, which should I get?
Lap top would make life easy on the run. However the Imac would make editing a lot easier.

What do you guys think?

Tough call - which MacBook?

I think video editing is better suited to the iMac - better graphics and Apple in their infinite wisdom has elected to omit firewire from the latest MB. For photography either will run Aperture.

I'm a photographer and run Lightroom 2 and photoshop 3 on my MacBook Pro it runs but is slow...Needless to say, I've just ordered a nice Quad-Core workstation :)

The MB402b
OK - still has Firewire - what sort of video editing software are you thinking of using? iMovie, Final Cut Express, or Final Cut Pro?

Still going to lean towards the iMac. My mother does video on her MB without a hitch but she doesnt do that much.

PS3 and Aperture (from what I recall Lightroom as well) fly on my MBP.

Lightroom2's local adjustments are really slow to render. I shoot weddings, so working through 1000 images per catalog drags the machine down.
Have you tried aperture?

iMac for what you describe, or if you really need mobility, MB Pro = only from an iStore thou on Vodacom contract.

Imac gives more bang for buck, get it unless u need mobility...

iMac has the bigger screen for starters, so if it's for photography, I'd be sold right there.

Also, if u like watching movies etc, u can just sit back with the remote and enjoy on a big screen.

(I have the 24" iMac, so I'm very biased)

But you can always add on a larger screen to the MacBook. These days you can get a 22" Samsung for a little over r2200?

I love portability. When I went to the game park the other day I was kicking myself for not bringing along my laptop. :o

Apple Cinema are one of the things I gawk at in Applestores.
Not gonna happen for me though.:(
The Cinema is over the top re price. Would never ever buy it at that markup in SA.
