Macbook Pro 2.4GHz Memory Upgrade?

I just bought a prestine second hand MBP 2.4GHZ (early 2008 model) with 2GB mem and 200GB disc for around R11k. Brand new one is R24k - you do the math.

I say drop the 3K and you have a fair deal both ways.

You sure? The MBP was only introduced in 2006 :D

The MBP doesn't have a superdrive? According to Apple's specs it has a superdrive.

The Macs can take generic memory and drives, so buy whatever you want. The ones I got for my old MacBook were this and this. I'm about to get the same for my MBP but I'm waiting for the 500GB drive instead.

OK cool.

the super drive in the unit is faulty so will need to be replaced

is R1000 for 4GB ddr2 667 good
and R1700 for 1 7200rpm 2.5" 500gb HDD good ?

I am think I should exclude the 22" lcd and the 3 k from the deal ?

The RAM sounds a bit expensive. You can get the RAM for $50 USD, so it shouldn't be more than R500-R700 odd in SA?

The drive sounds about right.

The latter is guaranteed to work. Not sure about the former, but as far as I know they take generic memory, so it shoud. Cybermoo or VertigoZA, I suspect, would know. Still, R900 odd for 4GB memory isn't bad. I remember paying R2000+ for a second hand 1MB module...

Yes, that's what I'm waiting for. I had the 320GB version in my MB - works just fine.

thanx, when you saying waiting for do you mean waiting to have money to buy one or waiting for availability

I really want to get the best out of my mac.

what other upgrades can you suggest ?

I have heard of people swopping out the santa rosa's top casing with the Penryn one to gain funtionality of the itunes key and the multitouch trackpad.

here are some links with info about it
