My MacBook gives me an error when ever I try to write a CD or DVD... something about the laser calibration that failed... So I googled it, and all the forums I find are like 1000 pages long, hoping to not have to read through all of them... Anyone that can give me a quick fix?
It doesn't work in Mac nor XP through bootcamp.

If I was to hazard a guess . . . replacement time. :o

I have the same problem (too many drops?) and have decided to buy one of the kits to drop in a second hdd instead.

Have the same problem. Solution, External writer.

My macbook late 2007 drive is also bust, I use an external now, what's up ith Apple DVD drives?

Where can I get a kit to replace it with an HDD locally?

I went to CNA this morning, bought a DVD lens cleaning kit, popped it into my Mac BookPro and Bob's your uncle... the drive works fine...
Cheaper option than buying a new drive...

That's what I did initially, I knew my lens was dirty...

but had the opposite experience, the cleaner damaged my lens.. cheap Chinese goods

This happened to my old Pioneer DVD player and a 3yo R2500 SONY DVD player too- the lens alignment went OFF.
