Hi Guys,

My MBP seems to have kicked the bucket :(

It doesn't boot unless you hold down some key - any key.

I managed to reinstall MacOS but it's still doing the same thing. Even when the machine has fully booted up and you let go of the key held in for it to boot it then just shuts down.

Has anyone even remotely experienced something similar?

I've seen an older MBP that would not go beyond the apple load screen before shutting down.

In that MBP's case it had a faulty GPU.

Have you run the Apple Hardware Test? Turn it on and immediately press and hold the D key.

I had this with my MacBook Pro 2009 , think it was a motherboard problem , and cost to much to fix.
You could try booting from a usb drive and reformat the Mac drive that way

I tried all the above. I suspect the SMC chip has packed up and left the building.

I managed to reinstall MacOS - but it isn't detecting the battery. The battery isn't charging and the fans are running at full speed even with zero load.

I guess this one will be allocated to a shelf now.
