Hi, wonder if any of you can shed some light on this. A friend of mine who was living in the US until the end of November last year discovered a large crack on the wrist pad of her 12.5 month old Macbook. After searching the net I found that a crack in that area is a common problem with the white/black Macbooks and Apple (in the US) replaced almost all of the problem cases even when the machines were out of warranty. She also has AppleCare though. Anyone had this problem in SA? Will Core sort this out? She's going to the Apple Store in Gateway on Thursday but she was hoping for some insight before that. And no, it wasn't dropped.

With core you never know, but the problem is known and the dudes at the Apple Store (London) did tell me that they'll replace it even after the warranty has run out, because it's a design flaw.

I have the same problem but scared core might 'surprise' charge me so have just left it as it is.

its a known problem and will be replaced free of charge. You might wait 5-7 days for parts though. I have never seen one of these claims rejected.

take it to digicape, they will not charge you, and if there will be any costs you will be notified.
Repair centres get paid to do warranty parts/claims by apple, hence the no charge.

ok, thanks

Apple Store Gateway said it would be covered but would have to be sent to JHB and would take TWO months, yes they said 2 months!! My friend said the person who helped her there didn't even know how to check the warranty of the machine online using the serial number. I jumped on the phone to Core in Jhb, they also said it WOULD BE covered under Apple Care and that it would need to be sent to them BUT it would take a MAXIMUM of 2 weeks not months.

I'll let you know how it turns out.

Odd, you would not even need to check the online warranty since it is an admitted problem and will be covered no matter what! Sounds like core is really stepping up their service, they answered the phone and promised a 2 week turn around time.....
just a heads up, remove the hard drive before sending...

I'm pleased to report that everything went off smoothly the Macbook was returned to its owner yesterday (Friday) with a new inner case and keyboard.
