MacNoob seeks guidance

I made the switch to Mac about 1 month ago. I'll never go back to Windows - sure, some applications I run don't work on a Mac but I run VMware Fusion with an XP VM to take care of that.

yeah we all start like that using vmware or parallels, eventually you will find that you will be starting Windows less until you just drop it all together. just a matter of time. :D

I wish! I run a program called the VI Client - part of VMware's datacentre product called vSphere. Unfortunately it's only written for Windows so I have to use it. When they write a client for the Mac then it's goodbye to MS.

I changed last September, never looked back ! Their Apple Support forum is open 30 Hours per day, really fast!!

Yeah i know how you feel. I ran XP on boot Camp just to run 3D Studio MAX. Got sick of it (XP) so I learnt Cinema4D. Hope you can find another solution though.

New mac User

I bought a new MBP13" last week.( I have moved from windows )
I am very impressed with it, except for the way the text appears. It looks very blurry. eg with "b" the vertical line is a faint grey and the rest is a darker black. This applies to most letters in all applications and menus. I have done some googling and other people have also noticed this, however I would like your opinions. I have fiddled with the font smoothing but I don't see any difference. Any ideas?

UPDATE: I found this article: http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/archives/000885.html
I've been trying to get used the way Apple renders the fonts, but I really wish they would at least give an option for more clear type font for those of us who are not font designers or publishers. My MBP13 is just sitting in its box as a result. What a waste, will probably sell it :-(

Join MSJ. That's the second thing you do after you get a new mac.

It's the way OSX does fonts. I hate the fonts like some people while others love them. Tried palying around with the fonts before but could not get it to look the way they do in windows or linux.

Nice Candy

This guy is selling some well priced Macbook Pros! I missed out on his 13".

VERY nice -- ex China / Hong Kong

Things I ask myself

What are the WiFi specs.......???

Built in 3G WWAN .......????

WiMax ...........????

2nd HDD ..........????

eSATA .........????

Video Out / S-Video ..........????

Only TWO USB ........??????

Bluetooth ............?????

Serial Port .........????

NOW -- IF only I could install Snow Leopard *natively* on my D830 with all the devices working correctly with native 64 bit drivers.

I would be VERY happy.

IF I could just find someone to sell me the CPU , I could also install an INTEL EXTREME CPU Core 2 Duo 2.9 Ghz

I can also install 8 GB of RAM

PLUS I have all of the other things I mentioned.

Not as elegant -- but at half the price who gives a shyte.

Wifi - it has Wireless N.
Built in 3G - nope but I think you can add it.
WiMax - err. Same
2nd hdd - you can replace the Optical drive.
eSata - nope.
Video out - Mini Displayport.
Bluetooth - Yep.
Serial Port - this is a Mac!

Oh, and you *can* install Snow Leopard on your D830.
I haven't got it yet but I can show you how to install Leopard.
Your Dell doesn't support 8gb RAM though. You will pay through your ass for that Core 2 Extreme.

OK -- OK

Thanks for updating me.

Problem is I was not seeing this on the B-or-B ad posting.

In that case I will HAVE TO have that 17" model -- technolust is a TERRIBLE thing.

Do you perhaps have an uncle in the finance business :erm::D

PS ; YES the D830 DOES support 8 Gb of RAM -- with the latest BIOS upgrade A 14 -- would you like a ref ????

As to the Core 2 EXTREME -- depends where you buy from --- need a buddie in the same place these MAC's come from :D

Ha ha! Yes, rationality leaves so rapidly! Especially when Apple is involved for some reason! That 17" is quite
