macOS Tahoe (macOS 26)

For the first time since moving over to a Mac, I've held off on updating to the latest OS. On Sequoia 15.7.3 on my MBP, but on Tahoe on all the iOS devices.

Going to be interesting to see if anything changes post-Dye, i.t.o of the next major OS update.
Presently, simply don't feel compelled/have any reason to upgrade.
That said, glad that the point-releases seem to be doing a good job of dealing with some of main areas of contention.

Only thing I've upgraded is iOS on my phone, everything else is still on previous release (iPad, 2x Macbooks & wife's phone).

No intention to upgrade either.

Nah, think I'll just skip this release completely rather and hope they make it worthwhile for 27
The question is if Apple will drop older models for 27 - I have no doubt Intel Macs will be dropped but remains to be seen if earlier Apple Silicon get dropped. If on-device AI becomes core to Apple they'll need to draw the line at 16GB - not sure if that'll be 27 or 28.

What are the standout features tof 26 hat make it a compelling upgrade?

What are the issues that holds anyone back and wanting to deal with the constant reminders instead?

MacOS (and the rest of them) is extremely iterative and therefore forced resistance is a little bit weird.

Software compatibility. I don't really want to pay to upgrade my app(s) for an aesthetic upgrade to macOS. That's why I asked for a compelling reason, an [infrequent] reminder from Apple isn't one.

Beyond the aesthetic changes/customizable folder icons/widgets styles etc the things I'm most using are the phone app, clipboard history, automations/actions and the customizable/multiple control center.

I now run a Mac Studio and MacBook so the RDMA enablement is something I'll probably use in the future plus might save me from having to fork over for a 64GB MacBook - I might go for 32/36GB instead for those edge scenarios.

I've been using CopyCip for ages - I'm glad Apple finally decided to add similar functionality.

But thanks, I appreciate you taking the time to detail the rest. Obviously it will be a moot point next time I upgrade, and I'll have to factor in the cost of upgrading software, but for now I'll stick with Sequoia.

Out of interest what software specifically? My pain was having to upgrade Parallels again - I run the standard/"perpetual" version.

Photomechanic. The version I have will kinda run under Tahoe but there are known issues that require a $150 upgrade.

I don't care about any of those. I've been using Alfred since 2020 and it's superior in things like workflows and clipboard history anyway. It's also better and quicker than Spotlight in general.

Not to mention Tahoe looks like someone designed a macOS theme for Windows using crayons. There's just 0 reason to upgrade beyond security patches which I'll still get.
