So last night I tried to drill a few holes to put up shelves in my bathroom. I was pretty sure I wasn't going to hit any pipes, but... I did. Lol

So my question: would a pipe clamp suffice to stop the water or would I need to replace the pipe.

It's a tiny hole and I din't want to break out a lot of the tiles to replace the pipe.

It's also the hot water pipe of my basin.

Thanks

Clamps will work there are a few different types, your problem will be the hot water though it will degrade the "rubber" lining inside the clamp over time, either solder the hole closed or just replace the the piece of pipe.

Ag man, my sympathies. Such a hassle to fix. I've always wanted to get one if those detectors that'll tell you where the pipe is.

I did the same a few years back, plumber replaced the piece of pipe with a thicker one around the hole and soldered it in place.

If it's a copper pipe a suitably sized self tapping screw might do the trick - it's worked for me in the past.

Are you really sure you don't need a tap right there, where you made the booboo? :-)
.

Been a while since I heard the word 'booboo'.

I did this many years ago, and had to make the drilled hole big enough to enable me to solder the hole closed.
Leave like that for a few days ensure normal use without leaks and then patch the wall.

Now I am very careful when drilling in walls and make sure no pipes are there.

Thanks! How to I solder the hole? What would I need? I guess I could just go to the hardware shop (Builders) and ask :p

Ryobi makes one for around ZAR400.
It has saved me on a good few occasions!
