So this happened to me but I didn't realize this is a thing... quite dangerous as many of us are using these for loadshedding:
Here is an article about the failure:

and a thread on reddit !
There is a thread on reddit:

I almost blew up my hand when I tried to pull the plug out of the wall and touched a part of the power lead that was worn away.

I see in the article they have redesigned the plug but I don't think its going to stop these types of failures... the other thing is that I realised its impossible to get a two pin plug replacement. I had to replace this plug with a 3 pin and its not great because the plug is so heavy now.

Shoo my 2 are ancient still work, though they only get used now for when I'm out and about.

Yep I recently patched mine up as luckily I spotted the cable starting to fray a while ago...cut away the outer sheath and electric tape the sh*t out of the cable all the way to the twin plug! I have also told the SO to never push the cable + plug back into the space provided and have improvised some clips to keep the cable + plug at bay when carrying.

Replaced mine with 3 pin day one

Only cause I wasn't in the mood to go hunting for an adaptor every time I wanna charge it.

WOW
Saw one here at work last week
I could not believe how thin the cable was
Luckily the guy didnt get hurt but he did get shocked
Terrible 2 pin cable
Should be illegal

I swear we live in a simulation,. I got zapped last night and immediately cut the cord off so that it cannot be used again. That wire is super kak indeed.

I'm thinking the real fix is that it should be using a grounded 3 pin cable... but obviously a better cable as well.

The trick here is that some people don't move these around, which is then a lot safer, the cable wont get frayed.
We use it as a lantern so its getting unplugged daily.

Yeah, no. Mine parks on top of the fridge 24/7

Bedroom/Lounge have lights from Mecer inverter. Not gonna run an extension on the floor to the kitchen.

Can you still fit the 3 pin in the back of the light and close it?
