So this happened to me but I didn't realize this is a thing... quite dangerous as many of us are using these for loadshedding:

You should check your Magneto light's cable, lest it pop while charging - Hypertext
A number of South Africans are finding that their Magneto lights are shorting or blowing up. The maker of these lights says it's because of wear and tear.htxt.co.za

I almost blew up my hand when I tried to pull the plug out of the wall and touched a part of the power lead that was worn away.

I see in the article they have redesigned the plug but I don't think its going to stop these types of failures... the other thing is that I realised its impossible to get a two pin plug replacement. I had to replace this plug with a 3 pin and its not great because the plug is so heavy now.
Had the exact same happen on one of mine, broke/shorted exactly the same spot..

Problem with those are they they take a long time to come on automatically when the power goes out.

Yeah, they have redesigned the whole thing, overcharge protection, lithium battery, and USB Type-C charge port, seems much more thought out now.

That and the same one mentioned in post #51 look slightly different to the Magneto model. The other one on Takealot looks more like the Magneto model.

Just stand still for 30s, don't move, tell the kids and wife to stay calm, and when the light go on, carry on as normal

That's why I pertinently mentioned not a Magneto, but a copy of it.
My statement related to Takealot selling two slightly different models both branded Switched.
Or just buy the older one that comes with a lead acid battery.

It is a click push button.
It switches on very close to immediately with the charger in the picture.

The plug is most important as its causing harm to users and electrocution so this plug looks way better than the cheap magneto plug

No sorry for the confusion.
It has a type c port at the back.
That is just my phone charger that I used to charge the light.
Unlike the lead acid ones you don't have to store it on charge, you can charge it fully and use it a number of times before having to recharge.
If you do keep it on change it will switch on during a power failure. Mine only takes a second or two, although someone here said theirs take much longer.

More cycles, overcharge protection, no breaking charge cable, lighter. Seems like an upgrade.
Albeit slightly dimmer, reliability is more important.
