Of course rims are ok and can look good. But trying to make an already ugly and cheap car look better by putting oversized rims on which don't even go with the car is just pathetic. Its a different story if you put OEM or OEM looking mags on which actually go with the car and improve handling but I can promise you that no 17s are going to improve handing on an i20.

I have to laugh every time I see 17s on a Toyota Avanza, I think the i20 could have the same effect on me

Not BS... In order to fit 17s on an i20 you will have to fit a tire with a tiny sidewall marking your ride extremely hard. And on South African road you'll buckle your rims after 5km...

rofl i haven't buckled my rims in over 10000km's but perhaps i just know how to drive :p

depends where you drive ....where i drive in cpt never been through potholes and stuff

Whats your idea of tiny? 40 profile? 35 profile?
Ive hit potholes with a 40 profile, not eve a scratch... actually 1 in 5 cars have 40 or 45 profile tyres.

The rides not bad at all, suspension plays a huge role in it aswell. A standard suspension on a i20 with 17 and 40 profiles will NOT be hard at all, harder that a 70 profile but nothing to disturb your haemorrhoids...

Actually, haemorrhoids, is that why you so against bigger wheels?

40 is generally still fine, 35 or less is my idea of tiny.

You're getting me all wrong, I have nothing against large rims. On the right car large rims can look great. I have something against rims which don't go with the car. I also have something against cheap tacky rims which look crap to begin with...

we buckled few rims on a golf 5 gti travelling from northern natal (newcastle) to jhb cos of the low profile and that the back roads are bad ...you have to sometimes stop the car to go over the potholes

Oh - and I'm sure most of you know, but for those that don't :

a 185/45 actually has the same (very similar) profile as a 235/35

Coz 235s are mostly for rear tyres, do you have 235s? If so rather use 225 tyres, they sit better and have a bit of a stretch which is always good(for looks, not potholes)

I've got 235 all round.

But no - IIRC the profile is a percentage of the widge.

So 35% of 235 is 82.25cm and 45% of 185 is 83.25cm

Thats the first Ive heard of that.

My understanding is that 35 meant 3.5cm and 45 4.5cm etc etc... Thats actually how it works although some tyre manufacturers add thread after the set profile whilst other include it. - if you know what I mean...

I also think you should rather use 225 tyres, 8.5j wheels. But a 235 will have better grip and save your rimz.

i also thought that but dolby is right, except in mm :p
