Mahindra XUV700 Revealed

The Indian carmaker has revealed its new XUV700 which is said to bring luxury and technology at an aggressive price.

The all-new Mahindra XUV700 has been revealed and it’s set to replace the XUV500 – a vehicle that we’ve sampled in various iterations over the years. Our last taste came in 2019 when we had a go in the 2.2 and we came away impressed with the space and level of specification. However, it wasn’t all roses with the unrefined engine.

Now in 2021, Mahindra has been working extensively on its SUV range. The XUV300 brings exceptional value to the segment and happens to look fresh and modern. That model will be joined by the XUV700 and its arrival isn’t just a product announcement. Along with this new SUV comes a new Mahindra logo and brand identity.

Dubbed the “Twin Peaks”, this new logo will be seen on all new Mahindra products, starting with the new XUV700. It’s a good-looking SUV, with C-shaped LED daytime-running lights dominating the front end, but the real magic occurs in the cabin.

The vehicle ships with Amazon Alexa as standard, as well as a fully digital cabin. There’s a digital instrument cluster as well as a Mercedes-Benz style infotainment screen stretching across the dashboard. The tech looks impressive with adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, auto high-beam assist, reverse camera to name but a few.

The new Mahindra XUV700 is available in a 5-seat and 7-seat configuration and will feature a 12-speaker sound system from Sony.

As far as engines and transmissions go, the new Mahindra XUV700 will be sold with a choice of petrol and diesel engines, with all-wheel drive being made available as an option. A six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic is available too. A 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 147 kW and 380 Nm is on offer, while a diesel 2.2 is available in two states of tune; 114 kW/360 Nm as well as 136 kW/450 Nm.

The vehicle will be going on sale in India soon, but the all-new Mahindra XUV700 is expected to be sold globally with the hopes that it will arrive in SA during the first quarter of 2022.

New SA-bound Mahindra XUV700 revealed as XUV500 replacement

The all-new Mahindra XUV700 has been unveiled in India as a replacement for the current XUV500, and given how much more technologically advanced it is versus its predecessor it’s not surprising that the carmaker has also changed the name.

The new Mahindra XUV700 is coming to South Africa, a local contact told IOL, and although the exact timing has yet to be confirmed, an early 2022 introduction seems likely at this stage.

The local pricing and engine mix will be announced closer to the time, but it’s interesting to note that the Indian model comes with a pair of significantly more powerful turbocharged engines.

On the diesel front there is a revised 2.2-litre unit that’s offered in two output levels: 114kW/360Nm and 136kW/450Nm. Mahindra also offers a 2-litre turbopetrol unit that produces 147kW and 380Nm. Both engine types are available with a choice between six-speed manual and six-speed automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive is an option. Drivers can also choose from three driving modes: Zip, Zap and Zoom.

Mahindra XUV700 revealed with premium styling and “sci-fi technology”

The Mahindra XUV700 has been revealed by the Indian manufacturer as a replacement model for the XUV500. The firm says that with this product, a brand-new era for the company will be established as it introduces an array of new design cues and comfort features.

With the introduction of the Mahindra XUV700 the company promises more presence, a tough yet sophisticated experience, spirited performance and world-class safety and sci-fi technology.

Within the Indian market, the Mahindra XUV700 will be made available in four variants with a five- or seven-seater configuration. The range kicks off with the MX which sports an eight-inch infotainment system, seven-inch digital instrument cluster, smart door handles flushed into the panels when not in use, LED taillamps and 17-inch steel wheels.

This is followed by the AX3 which boasts a dual HD 10,25-inch infotainment screen with Amazon Alexa built into the system. LED DRL and front foglamps are added as well but 17-inch steel wheels remain. At the AX5 level these are replaced with alloys of the same size along with curtain airbags, LED headlamps, sequential indicators and cornering lamps.

Mahindra XUV700 Review - Team-BHP

Mahindra XUV700 Pros

• Handsome styling matched to solid build quality. Has street presence, feels robust
• Very spacious interiors with comfy seats and sorted ergonomics. 6-footer passengers welcome!
• 182 BHP turbo-diesel & 197 BHP turbo-petrol make for a potent line-up
• Smooth 6-speed torque converter Automatics available with both engines
• Sorted suspension with good road manners & high speed stability
• AWD available for the adventurous, unlike most FWD crossovers in the segment
• Loaded with features like radar-based driver assistance system, pop-out door handles, panoramic sunroof, driver memory seat, 360-degree camera, 10.25" infotainment & instrument cluster etc.
• 12-speaker Sony audio system is fantastic! You'll enjoy its sound quality
• Safety features include 7 airbags, ESP, all-wheel disc brakes, hill hold, hill descent control, driver drowsiness detection, TPMS, ISOFIX...

Mahindra XUV700 Cons

• Negligible boot space with the 3rd-row seat up. Either 5 onboard, or 7 with a roof-top carrier
• Cramped 3rd-row seat is best suited to children only. A sliding middle row is sorely missed
• Petrol AT is thirsty due to its hefty weight, 197 BHP & torque-converter AT
• Some cabin plastics & a few rough areas don't feel premium in an otherwise loaded SUV
• Missing features such as an auto-dimming IRVM, ventilated seats, paddle shifters, full-size spare wheel...
• Concerns over niggles & bugs in a freshly baked, complex Mahindra. We saw 2!
• Mahindra's after-sales service is a hit or miss. Remains a gamble
• AWD is available just with the Diesel AT, and not the MT or petrol motor

Mahindra XUV700 confirmed for South Africa! Here’s what we know so far

Just two days ago we were treated to the official reveal of the Mahindra XUV700. The local division of the Indian manufacturer has now confirmed that the new SUV will be coming to South Africa to replace the current XUV500.

Although pricing is yet to be confirmed, the Mahindra XUV700 will be available by the first half of 2022. The firm also says that product planning is only now starting with the local specification, but the brand expects it to be very close to the Indian specification level.

In India, the flagship Mahindra XUV700 comes standard with an array of safety features such as adaptive cruise control, high beam assist and traffic sign recognition. A key addition to the interior is the new 10,25-inch HD infotainment screen that flows into a second 10,25-inch digital instrument cluster.

The new system features wireless Android Auto and Apple Car Play connectivity, screen casting and built-in Amazon Alexa integration for the voice command system. It also introduces a new Andreo X Connect app that provides remote access to the car’s systems such as the locking and air conditioning.

The Mahindra XUV700 also sports a 12-speaker system sourced from Sony with 3D surround sound and a smart clean filter that claims to create a 99 per cent bacteria-free environment. For the sake of convenience, the SUV boasts passive keyless entry with a push start button, electrically adjustable seats with a memory function, a voice-controlled glass panoramic sunroof and a reverse camera with park assist.

Insights: SA-bound Mahindra XUV700

The Mahindra XUV700, which is expected to arrive in Mzansi in the 1st quarter of 2022, has gone on sale in its home market and the newcomer’s specs offer a variety of insights into what the Indian family car is likely to bring to the local market next year…

The all-new XUV700 was revealed in India in August as a replacement for the XUV500 and it’s the first model to feature Mahindra’s new “Twin Peaks” corporate logo.

Apart from the fact that the newcomer is 110-mm longer (4 965 mm), courtesy of a wheelbase that has been stretched by 50 mm (to 2 750 mm), the principal reason that Mahindra chose not to replace the XUV500 with a similarly-named model is that the Indian brand plans to resurrect the outgoing nameplate in 2024, when a new offering will be rolled out to rival the popular Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Toyota Corolla Cross and the like.

The Mahindra is powered by a 2.0-litre mStallion turbopetrol or a 2.2-litre mHawk turbodiesel 4-cylinder engine mated with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or 6-speed automatic transmission.

The turbopetrol produces peak outputs of 147 kW and 380 Nm, while the turbodiesel comes in 2 stages of tune: it either produces 114 kW/360 Nm in combination with the manual gearbox or a punchy 136 kW and 420 Nm (manual) or 450 Nm (automatic) of torque. The diesel engine additionally comes in conjunction with 4 drive modes – Zip, Zap, Zoom and Custom – that offer various powertrain and power-steering settings.

Competitively priced in India

Here’s where things get rather interesting… Given that the spacious, more advanced XUV700 is now positioned to take on the market’s much-vaunted family cars, such as the Kia Sportage, Haval H6, Hyundai Tucson, Mazda CX-5, Peugeot 3008, Toyota RAV4 and Volkswagen Tiguan, Autocar India reports that that the prices of the newcomer’s lowe-end derivatives overlap with those of higher-end Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos compact family cars.

All of which suggests that with the increasing number of traditional family-car buyers that are forced to buy down because of the increasing sophistication (and, therefore, higher asking prices) of medium-sized crossovers, the XUV700 could prove to be a more affordable – yet still sufficiently spacious – alternative to mainstream offerings.

Mahindra XUV700 – Q3/Q4 2022

The all-new XUV700 was revealed in India in August as a replacement for the XUV500 and it’s the first model to feature Mahindra’s new “Twin Peaks” corporate logo. The XUV700 is the most luxuriously-appointed Mahindra we have yet seen and the large integrated dual-screen set up inside is a major talking point for this new model. A 2.0-litre mStallion turbopetrol produces peak outputs of 147 kW and 380 Nm in conjunction with a 6-speed automatic transmission, while a 2.2-litre mHawk turbodiesel comes in 2 stages of tune: it either produces 114 kW/360 Nm in combination with the manual gearbox or a punchy 136 kW and 420 Nm (manual) or 450 Nm (automatic) of torque. South African specification and pricing details will be announced closer to launch.

Mahindra confirms new Scorpio and XUV700 flagship for South Africa

While it might not be growing at the same headline-grabbing pace as Chinese firms like Haval, India’s Mahindra is a brand to watch.

The 4x4 specialist has been gradually growing its footprint in South Africa, having sold a monthly average of over 1000 units in the first quarter of 2022, which saw the manufacturer sell a total of 3306 units. And at the end of the last financial year, the brand had grown by 37.4% versus the preceding period.

This impressive growth is largely thanks to the increasing popularity of the Scorpio Pik-Up, which is partially locally assembled, and which found 711 new homes last month, but the KUV100 and XUV300 compact crossovers have also been achieving reasonably good numbers, the latter closing on the 200 mark last month.

Now Mahindra is turning its attention to larger SUV products, with news that the new-generation Scorpio and XUV700 are set to hit local shores.

Mahindra South Africa has not provided a timeline as yet, but it has said that the XUV700 will reach our shores first.

Revealed in India last year, the Mahindra XUV700 replaces the XUV500 and boasting more than 60 new ‘connected car features’ it is by far the most advanced vehicle that Mahindra has ever produced. Available features include a Sony 3D surround sound system, a whole suit of driver assist systems, 360-degree surround view parking and a wide dashboard screen that includes both infotainment and digital instrumentation.

On the engine front, Mahindra is offering a revised 2.2-litre unit in 114kW/360Nm and 136kW/450Nm guises as well as a 2.0-litre turbopetrol that produces 147kW and 380Nm.

The new Mahindra Scorpio is yet to be revealed, but it is expected to slot beneath the XUV700 and while it should offer a similar engine line-up to the latter, the newcomer will reportedly be built around an updated ladder frame structure shared with the new Thar.

Sadly, however, there is currently no word on whether the new Mahindra Thar, which could make an interesting alternative to the Suzuki Jimny with its baby-Wrangler looks, is heading to South Africa.

Mahindra XUV700 recalled over alternator belt issue - Team-BHP

This is the third recall issued by Mahindra for the XUV700 in the span of a single month.

1658929345177.png

Mahindra has issued yet another "critical recall alert" for the XUV700 over an issue related to the alternator belt and auto tensioner.

Mahindra has given directions to all service centres to replace the alternator belt and auto tensioner on the XUV700.

The company has also initiated a recall for flashing the ESCL (Electronic Steering Column Lock).

It is said that AWD variants of the XUV700 have been affected by this recall. However, it is still not clear if other variants are also facing the same issues.

This is the third recall issued by Mahindra for the XUV700 in the span of a single month.

Earlier, the AWD variants were recalled for the inspection of the propeller shaft bolts and the replacement of rear wheel coil springs.

The AX7 variant now gets normal cruise control, while Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go function is available in the AX7 L AT trim only. The AX7 L variant also gets LED sequential turn indicators.
