Main One submarine cable progress

I'm not reading anymore 'undersea cable progress' stories as I followed the seacom one for +-1.5 years for absolutely nothing. I'm not following anymore empty promises.

Exactly - who cares anyway? More bandwidth obviously doesn't translate into lower prices for us, where are the headlines of 10x the bandwidth @ 10 times less now? You gotta smile at African economics.

It does not matter how cheap the bandwidth comes in at... you will still pay minimum R500 just to have a 4mb ADSL line.... before anything else, that needs to be sorted!

if only we were at the top of the continent and not at the bottom. i hate geography.

Land Down UNDER

if only we were at the top of the continent and not at the bottom. i hate geography.

HOW do Australians manage ? -- with ADSL 2+ -- in the LAND DOWN UNDER

At the @rse end of the World and also in the Southern-Hemisphere

Mehtinks it has a LOT more to do with DEMOGRAPHICS rather than GEOGRAPHICS :D:D:D:D

The more cables which land in SA, the more choice the better. But I am concerned that costs related to the 'last mile' to my house will remain unacceptably high, as this is Telkom's strangle and cash cow :(

heres an interesting quote...

" But by 2011 he expects further price falls:”There will be further falls of 50% a year and I fully expect that. Fibre markets around the world work on that basis.”"

So we can expect Seacom/WACS/SAT3/SAFE bandwidth to get cheaper every year?

Oh well, at least now we know that any hype around new cables mean absolutely nothing to the man in the street, which makes this type of article worthless in it's intent, other than possibly sharing the technology involved with those who might find it interesting.
