Hey All
I hope this is the right section to post in.
This may be a long winded post so please bear with me.
My family and I are going through hell with telkom since the beginning of the year. Our area (chartwell/farmall) suffers from cable theft. Needless to say, I am a heavy online gamer who needs his stable adsl, but I am receiving very little help from telkom.
We often have cables within our area stolen, we report the fault and after a month or 2 of moaning at the call centers our problem gets resolved and cables replaced. Unfortunatly , Telkom does not seem to have any foresight and doesn't put down any measures to stop the theft from happening again, i.e (putting it underground, raiding local scrap merchants, armed guards or working with the police).
We suggest many measures to Telkom in order to prevent such theft from happening again but no one seems to be listening.
We recently had a good spell last year and our cable stayed safe for most of the year (Stolen 2 or 3 times). Unfortunately at the beginning of the year they were stolen again. Once again we reported the fault, we then took it a step further and phoned head of our local police station (Douglasdale) and had a long talk to her about the problems in our area. Apparently Telkom reports cable theft in batches to the police, at the end of each month or so, not in the first 24-48 hours after the incident. Thus eliminating any police help after the incident.
We fought with telkom for a month to replace the cable and install some sort of measure that would prevent the theft, but after constant phoning they (or our local techies) closed our fault without telling us. Thus we had re-report the fault. We tried to get in contact with people who worked higher up in telkom but it didnt at all.
Half the cables in the street were eventually replaced, just 10M short of connecting me and my neighbors. Once again we phoned Telkom's call centers only to hit a wall once again.
After much moaning at the call centers, Telkom (or our local techies) tried to close our fault once again! Again fighting ensued as we reopened it.
I don't know what to do anymore. I understand cable theft is bad and is hurting telkom's pockets but they haven't once tried combat it in our area nor work with us on this. I cannot speak to anyone higher up than a supervisor at the call centers, thus nothing gets done. I understand the call centers have limited power. I phone everyday only to be told that a techie has been assigned and is working on it, and on most occasions that a techie has just been assigned the task earlier that day. I believe the techies in our area are also major part of the problem.
I don't know what to do , I am contemplating, going out and paying a techie personally to fix the rest of my line. Does anyone else have any advice or has had the same problem/s? I am really at wits end.
Update, some friends of mine are also suffering from telkom just canceling their faults in order to get rid of them or not have to fix the problem Anything i can do? The call centers are effing useless.
