Major policy shift for telecoms expected

But he said that “managed liberalisation” was still the preferred way of regulating the sector, implying that no “big bang” liberalisation should be expected next month.

One department source said the original proposals drafted after the colloquium and sent to the minister contained strong liberalisation measures. But the proposals were sent back for amendments, he said.
Isn't Ivy just a big fat b.

“Our minister will make a statement around the things we need to do to further liberalise the sector and ensure there is competition to lower the cost of doing business by lowering telecoms prices,” Munzhelele told a conference yesterday
People know what needs to be done, how about actually DOING IT, instead of just talking about it.

sigh

this *document* was prepared and ready in December last year FFS...now i would guess it has been thru the inevitable watering down process

the more things change the more they stay the same

I doubt anything will be said by the government until the next dividends are handed out to the shareholders. Anyone know when that is?

They already know what they want to say. Why the hell do they have to wait for next month. What's stopping them from getting the &*&%$#@ with it?

Easy answer: the brakes on the gravy train are rusted, so slowing down to deliver a speech is hard work, and needs time! :p

Because there is an election between now and next month.

They know the "announcement" will be a damp squib, but this way, they can get some mileage out of it...

So, translating this means the anouncement will be something like: "Shut up, consumer! You're getting nothing new. The change in policy is that, from now on, we won't even listen to you! Oh, yes, something else: ICASA is going to be disbanded, since it costs too much gravy to maintain!"

Reason why I say so? If the new policy was good, they would announce it now, to get more votes! ("Look how good we are! Vote for us, and we'll try to better it even more!")

Expect nothing, then you can't be disappointed!

Bitchy Comments withheld till nextmonth should nothing happen as expected!

edit: Actually, Bitchy comment withheld due to fear that i might get banned from forum due to excessive use of swearwords, and insulting remarks. However i will admit this - my comment contained the words "LIGHT, T@MP@X, BIG BANG* - and no, its got nothing to do with the formation of the cosmos, but might be just as loud!.

So that's why we've had a heatwave all of a sudden... :D

*yawn* more talk... I'll believe this when there's some action...

Been around this bush before. Would like to see some action instead of pre-election promises!

All I heard wa blah blah blah blah blah and then some more blah.

Its a bit like this:

A major freeway is severely damaged and needs fixing. Every motorist that drives on it know whats wrong and complains to the Dept of Transport. They hold a series of meetings to determine what the problem is. They get sidetracked due to the delicious food and have to agree to reconvene in a few months to talk about it some more.

In the meantime not one of them actually drives on the freeway in question so theres no sense of urgency. After all, meetings and banquets are fun!
