Major temp increase with BIOS update

As the title says, had an issue with my motherboard so I updated the bios to the latest one, turns out the BIOS was not the problem. Problem is that now the temperature is was higher than it was before the update. CPU used to idle at around 26°, load 33°. Now the thing idles at around 38° and 45° underload, the core temps slightly higher.

What could cause this?
 
IMO, your temps before sound too good to be true anyway, my E2180@3GHz (dependant on weather) idles at 40-46 and can get up to 56-57 at full load. Hyper TX2. So I don't think you have anything to worry about.
 
Sorry. Forgot to mention that I have removed the OC for the time being. It was fusking around with my onboard nic.
 
yep i agree the temps before the update were wrong, im running a e6400 @ 3.2. OCZ copper cooler idling in summer lately at around 40-47 and 54-60 underload. Dont stress, set bios to shut down if you hit 70 degress.

and check your T-junction in CPU-Z, thats your 'tilt' temp :)
 
I disagree, my E8400 at 3.8 is idle at 29 and tops out at about 40 on stock cooling.
Is it not possible that the temp sensors were not working properly before the BIOS update and now are?
What processor are you running?
 
remember my e6400 will be on 65nm architecture while the new "e" models will be on the 45nm, hence running cooler. 45 under load is nothing, test it under intel's TAT (thermal analysis tool) thats something that will cook a cpu quite abit more than prime95 :)

Especially since the E5200 is a 45mm CPU which is meant to be cooler. Most of the time the CPU is sitting at 1200MHz anyway do to speedstep so I think 35 is a little high for idle temp.
 
well you can turn the speedstep and whatnot off in the bios and set the fan to constant full speed, its all being throttled and regulated to hell and back. really bottom line is youre fine.
 
For idle you need to take into account room temp, the heat your north bridge is giving off, your gpu temp, all of those dump heat in your case and raise temps.

p.s. what program are you using to measure temps (real temp and core temp best for core 2 and quad)
p.p.s. I see you running a 4850 which dumps heat into your case so a further reason for higher cpu temps

Using speedfan, coretemp, gigabyte utility etc. All giving same temps.

Case is a Thermaltake Soprano, good airflow. HD4850 sitting at 45 deg.

System is stable so just going to leave it as is even if its a little warm.

Not much, 4 or 5 degrees. Only problem with the OC I have had was the onboard NIC which wouldn't pick up a network cable unless it was manually set to 10mbit and some artifacts in the bios..
 
You arent running an Asus P5Q are you?
My onboard card doesnt work at all above 3.6 on that one.
 
Not really, the 45nm ones run very cool. I have measured it with the asus software, speedfan and coretemp.

Strange, my E8400 at stock doesn't even come close to those temperatures. And it's in a well-ventilated case in an air-conditioned room. :confused:

Maybe I'm just unlucky ;)
 
As far as i recall core temp has a habit of being 5 or 10 degrees out, Rocket-Boy dl real temp and tell us what your temps are then (please)

I know Speedfan had a problem with reporting quad core CPUs' temperatures, also a similar margin. Didn't know about any problems with CoreTemp :confused:

yup real temp is supposed to be the better of the 2, no idea if core temp is now fixed or not.
