Major temp increase with BIOS update

I don't know which temp readings to trust, my motherboard says 30C but temp apps range from 40C to 60C.

lol just going by what extremesystems says and everyone over there uses real instead of core :)

If core is fixed then there will be no issues, shall check with my system in a few minutes when i go upstairs

okie 5 degree dif between all cores when using core and real temp, does anyone know the correct tj maxes for i7 ?

After some more investigation there is apparently a slope thingy according to Intel which in the end tells us that all idle temps are rubbish and the sensor only starts working correctly over 50 deg C ie all they are worried about is when the chip should start throttling, idle temps seem to be unimportant. Makes sense to me as my E8400 used to be stuck on 31 deg on both cores until i really heated it up then the temps would change.

Didn't save the links but just google i7 tjmax and it is the 1st couple of links i looked at (going to read more now)

heehee another edit, seems i7 tjmax is read straight from the chip but not sure if core temp is picking it up right (core says 100 real says 95 and if i make real 100 they both read same temps obviously ), more reading to do

Final edit, prime95 taking me to 77 deg but the scarey part is the TDP of 147W being used by the cpu, no way air will cool this thing (vcore 1.25 cpu at 3.46)

Strange, my E8400 at stock doesn't even come close to those temperatures. And it's in a well-ventilated case in an air-conditioned room.

Maybe I'm just unlucky ;)

You might just be, The only difference is that mine is mounted with AS5

QX6700 how does that i7 of yours clock? have you given it a decent push yet?
You running it under water atm?

Running under a TRUE extreme, presently at 3.46 temps are crazy so i need to see what i am doing wrong. Peeps are getting the 920 up to 4 with the same board and some are even using stock cooling which i cannot believe but the proof is all out there :(

Not to comfortable with water but i may just have to look at it next

I wouldnt bother with water, the TRUE beats all lower and mid end water stuff hands down.
Infact you could only go for VERY expensive high end water to beat it.

Have you tried a remount to see if it has a bad one?
You are running 125 right? that shouldnt be *that* hot.
I mean thats scary stuff.
