Make your house more valuable with broadband

Well when I go house shopping whether or not the area has ADSL will definitely be a factor.

Sure .. but are you prepared to pay 8% more for your hi-speed house like Londoners are?

I agree 100% with this. In our area, Telkom no longer install ADSL lines. In fact, our neighbour's house is up for sale and we met the couple who viewed it Sunday. When I told them to be aware of this, they asked the agent to leave as they are not interested in buying in an area where ADSL is no longer made available.

In a couple of years, houses with ADSL will increase tremendously in value.

Maybe not 8%.

But definately a premium over an area with nothing

Yeah.

Maybe even 8% to be honest.

As I'll be living there for years.

Imagine years without ADSL. :erm:

Well no, at the moment the demand is moving faster than Telkom's ability to react to the exchange requirements. I imagine that either the exchanges will be upgraded or the technology will change.

A little over dramatic there.

Not really, with Telkom refusing to install ADSL in certain neighbourhoods (mainly due to cable theft) and forcing people over to wireless phones, areas with access to ADSL will become sought after. Prices in these areas are set to go sky high, as there will be a huge demand from those who absolutely need ADSL.

In our area we were informed that Telkom will never bring ADSL back as it is not economically viable any longer.

Well you're lucky, you'll probably get FTTH before everyone else then :D

I can't :(

My ADSL went down last night ... I do everything online, so smarphone, tablet, PC, Netflix, PS4 multiplayer was dead ... I went to bed early

I don't think that the value of houses in SA will necessarily be that much higher if you have fixed broadband infrastructure, it will only be harder to sell.

But yes, eventually Broadband will become a utility, currently for some its still considered as a nice-to-have.

I'm currently house shopping and while Internet connection is a major item on the list, it is definitely not number 1.

It was a deal breaker for me when I bought a house 3 years ago...

The Estate Agent was told, I am not interested in seeing any properties that do not have access to decent ADSL infrastructure... took a bit of education to show her what I meant.

Another article title fail.

So if your house is in an area with ****ty ADSL at the moment, you can easily increase the value of your house by, um, moving it to a better area? Genius.
