Makro to test small-format stores in malls

Massmart will soon test small-format Makro stores at four existing Game sites inside malls.

Group corporate affairs head Brian Leroni told MyBroadband that they do not intend for these to be Makro stores within Game stores.

Dion Wired was actually useful and operated in a space with far fewer alternatives.

They should have dropped Game rather. Game is basically a mini-Makro anyway, this is just a rebrand...

There were more game stores than Dion, so cheaper to turn Dion to game.

Yeah what I'm getting at is that they should have done this rebrand way back then, and kept Dion.

People don't identify with Massmart, they identify with the individual brands. And Makro had arguably been a better brand than Game...

They always seem to do the opposite to what makes sense. I know ,I used to work for them.

I always thought more makro stores but make them into mini walmart type stores,a concept makro sort of is already. Ditch game it's a waste of time ,It become one giant verimark store.move the staff to the new makro stores. Dion wired always seemed to be pricey compared to the competition so it was pointless.

They went and did a bakery and groceries area with a game liquors and it didn't work.who wants to pop into a huge mall to buy bread and milk

Game has always been dingy, like checkers used to be.

I will bet this is gonna be half-arsed for sure. I really fail to see the point. Why open yourself up for extra staff, lease agreements, and all the other BS that comes with running a store?

Do they have money burning a hole in their pockets or what?

They already tried, and failed, to add a grocery section to Game. How would a smaller store have enough space to sell bulk items?

It's probably going to be half-assed either way.

Did they actually convert some of the Dion stores to Game? In PE they just closed it down due to the proximity of it to an existing Game.

I would just take the Games and the Makros and rebrand them all to Walmart.

Lost the plot. The Game at the mall is dead after they turned it into a grocery store. The newly built Macro is dead because they had the opportunity to build from scratch but made it worse than the original. And now this stupid idea

HA. It will be funny if you can buy really small stuff in bulk! E.g. You can buy a box of bulk small chocolates, but a not a normal chocolate or slab!

And of course really small dolls house office furniture.

I went to Game and for the first time in my adult life Game staff were friendly and helpful. Get this on several occasions a Game staffer came up to me I asked if I needed help.

I popped into Game Kanala Walk the AM (granted), the place is dead! I mean it, how do those okes make money?? A big ass store in CW = prime rental.
