Hi all,

What is the simplest and most cost effective way to get a male hormone test done.

- Going to GP (do you then get referred elsewhere?)
- Going directly to Pathcare or similar labs?
- Online test packages such as "get-tested" (expensive)
- Making an appointment with an endocrinologist (very expensive)

If it is found that testosterone is low in these tests, who are you then referred to to get the necessary injections etc?

Thanks

GP refers you to Pathcare. Blood to be drawn before 10h00 due to testosterone diminishing later in the day. GP can treat you if too low. (Done it earlier this month, hence the wisdom)

Did you just think about getting it done by googling 'symptoms of low testosterone ' ?

Did mine last year along with entire blood work panel via doc was about R5k.

I was below low end testosterone so on estrogen blockers at the moment. Also good to get baseline PSA values etc

Also you wont just get injections this will be dependent on age etc trying for kids as well.

Just ask your GP for a script. I don't know of any labs that will accept you directly.
I always suggest at least the following.
Free Testosterone (Also test SHBG)
E2 (Estradiol)
PSA ( Prostate health) Remember nothing sexual for 2-3 days beforehand, otherwise it may come back high
Thyroid function (TSH and T4)

For general health I would also suggest a few others.

Also, their reverence ranges is very low, and has gone down over the years. Levels I consider low is quite normal in their opinion

Did this last week at my GP. Added in the testosterone test as part of annual checkup.
Actual test cost is +-R100.00 plus your GP consult cost.
Levels on the lower end at 15 compared to 30 for my age range. Doc advised he will put me on Sustanon only if it affects libido etc. So for now trying to increase it naturally and will do the test in another 2-3 months and then check from there.

You can go to ampath and pathcare etc. Just tell them youre a private patient

Medical aid wont cover it, but its not that expensive....
You get the results sent to you, or your dr, Then take it from there

I test my T levels twice a year (Im due again)

I just ask my doc to inject me once in a while. No need for testing as to much T won't be a car smash.

Edit. Unless you are prone to road rage...

Last couple of blood tests I had to do I asked the codes for the tests on the chat support of Lancet's website and then walked into Lancet, filled in the forms, paid, drew blood and got the results in plain English on the Lancet app

Sjoe, this bill adds up quite quickly if going directly via Pathcare. Is there any benefit going to a GP first?

No. Try do it via Lancet as their explanations are decent on the report you get on the app.

If you have a problem see the doctor after

Sustanon is quite a serious supplement, I've only ever heard of bodybuilders taking it.

Benefits are apparently it's a mix of testosterone which gets released at intervals or something like that.

Yeah so that will be a last option. But don't think i will need it.
Will be doing another test in 2 months just to see if the levels have improved

Quick one. Does Pathcare not provide this sort of explanation as well? Just asking because Lancet charges about R100 more for the same test.

Haven’t used Pathcare or Ampath after they gave me incorrect results a few years ago but you can check if they have an app and ask in their branch.

Why skimp out for just R100 though?
