IMET (International Military Education and Training) funds from the USA remain important to Botswana's officer training programme. Over 30 Botswana officers receive military training in the US each year; by 1999 approximately 85% of the BDF officers are said to have been trained under this system.

I don't see "yankee" in the article. For all we know it could be a Chinese base...

The U.S has close military ties with Botswana. They've been linked as a candidate to host U.S bases in the past. Malema wouldn't consider the Chinese 'imperialists'.

But this reminds me of an interview on Carte Blanche a while back where Moletsi Mbeki said Mugabe was looking for pretext for war with Botswana. Perhaps his 'mini me' is helping out with laying the ground work

EDIT:

Here it is
Moeletsi Mbeki (Political analyst): "Mugabe is now looking or a pretext in order to amass his army on the border with Botswana. So he is building up a case, a false case, but nonetheless he's building up a case in order to prepare for either a direct invasion of Botswana or to amass an army and compel the president of Botswana to recognise him as the president of Zimbabwe."

Derek: "How would it help Zimbabwe or Robert Mugabe to attack Botswana?"

Moeletsi: "Mugabe see's Botswana as a potential safe base for the MDC, so he doesn't want Botswana to play that role so he has to terrorise Botswana not to even begin playing that role."

Derek: "Surely that's more of a diplomatic issue?"

Moeletse: "No, it's not a diplomatic issue because in fact Botswana has been very open to the opposition, to Morgan Tsvangarai. They have given him whatever temporary asylum he wants in Botswana."

A detailed plan would be made by the ANCYL team set up by the NEC to handle the situation in Botswana

Id pay top dollar to get my hands on this goldmine of comedy. lol

lulz @ zim going to war with bw.
that would be affectionately known as the "1 day war".
day 1: zim army crosses the border, realises they have no food, weapons or petrol
later that day: nobody rocks up to fight them, so half of them go back over the border to claim their farm.
the other half reckon this would be a great time to defect, so they trot all the way to gaborone, surrender and ask to be made prisoners of war with the proviso that they aren't sent back home.
the end.

I would not trust anything Malema says.
He has already been proven to be a liar with no conscience.
So why should we fret over this crap for one second?
They guy has a doctorate in dealing oral pooh.

NATO consists of 28 nations. More protection for Botswana is a good thing. Since Malema complains about it, you know it's the right thing to do.
