When capitalism left ZIM it meant the human resource that kept the capitalism afloat also left the country. In ZIM case sanctions forced the outside labor(british) to leave the country. Thus Mugabe did not runt he country into the ground the people that ran the country left. And basically Mugabe only wanted to learn to farm himself <--- sarcasm. One mistake for ground does not deserve him the punishment his country is getting.

AFAIK there are only sanctions on a number of corrupt individuals (including Mugabe) in their personal capacities, mainly in an attempt to limit their looting of the Zimbabwe state coffers.

Yes, but negate is using the sanctions as an excuse for Mugabe's behaviour.

There is no excuse, Mugabe just drove Zimbabwe into the ground, as is now starting to happen here.

I must say, the last day or two has been very informative about the views / philosophy of ANC members.

And it is very concerning, these people are dangerously ignorant.

There are no sanctions, just individual sanctions to stop the thieves from looting the Zim Treasury.

So there is no way that the sanctions could have made the economy worse, it could only have made things better by closing the Swiss banks off to the thieves.

well in SA's case sanctions brought a lot of development via companies such as Iscor, Sasol and our Military technology also improved a lot once we had angola to practise on ....

in old bob's case.... sanctions didn't do anything but make live harder for Zimbabweans and more frustrating for old bob.

Prime Minister Brown stressed that European Union sanctions in place against Zimbabwe, its former colony, "do not target Zimbabwe or Zimbabweans. They target individuals who are responsible for violence and a number of businesses linked to them."

IMHO these sanctions on corrupt / violent individuals (or their companies) should under no circumstances be lifted.

And it is an absolute disgrace that South Africa does not have similar sanctions on corrupt/violent Zimbabwe officials in place.

Good point, but keep in mind the sanction on us wasn't as extreme as total trade embargo which hit ZIM, mainly because of our amount of resources we exported. (people demanded trade in R) as such limited trade embargo (no devaluing currency like in ZIM) was imposed after carefull consideration with all parties involved. . Thus sanctions on SA were limited because we were very usefull. The zim sanctions werent the least bit lenient. The next bunch of investors in ZIM be it India, China or us will be the countries that gain the most.

But again with or without Sanction a country will invest in itself. South africa just used the incentive to do some investing, but again they could have started the same research without the sanction and when left on a natural course they proparbly would have

There was/is no trade embargo on Zimbabwe. Or are you talking about the sanctions against Smith ? Nothing against Mad Bob !

The only reasons Zim couldn't import were :
1) The corrupt officials stole the money;
2) Mad Bob destroyed Agriculture, one of the main earners of foreign currency - so no money to import.

Nobody in their right mind will invest in Zim when Bob wants to steal 50% of their business.

Sanctions against SA included a total sporting and cultural boycott - all Zim has is a restriction on travel and funding for some fat cat cronies.

I see history repeating itself. Anti-Malema people will try to bring Malema to book, try him in court so he can go to jail. But Malema (like Zuma) is loved by a lot of people, people will gather outside court singing "kill the boer, the farmer" (like when people gathered outside court when Zuma was tried and were singing "awuleth' umshini wami"). I see Malema's supporters chanting "Malema for president" or "Malema my president" (and I don't think they will mean to say Malema for president of the ANCYL, they will mean Malema for president of South Africa). I see Malema being nominated to become president of the ANC very soon, in 2017 if not in 2012. He will win and become ANC president, and then (automatically) president of SA in 2019 if not 2014. The rest I will to you guys to speculate.

My point is that Zille and most of you guys don't seem to learn, despite your apparent intelligence. You don't stop to think, don't you think that people in general like victims? Malema is smart enough to make himself a victim in people's eyes, and that's why people love him. A lot of people have said it and I will say it, Malema will be president of this country in the not too distant future. One way of stopping him is to ignore him, to let these newspapers report less about him. But that's not gonna happen, you suckers are gonna keep on baying for Malema's blood, but you won't get jack. For a long time you people wanted Zuma arrested and jaied and what have you, but where is he now. He's up there while you are still there sitting in front of your pc typing and moaning and I don't know what else.

I'm not an ANC supporter by the way, it's just sickening to always read or hear about Malema everytime I read the newspaper or watch the news, and it's all because of YOU!!!!!
