Engineering studies are harder than Humanities but I ask myself "so what?". I've met many incredible people and very few are Engineers. :)

also education is not about training to do a job as such, although that seems to be the case these days

you can supplement a socsci degree with an honours lets say and then pursue a CA conversion stream if you really wanted to.

I knew a guy who did a socsci with stats and maths as majors and then pursued the accelerated act sci stream

I like that approach to education. In the end, it depends on a person's personality and career path.
