wondering how this went from being a discussion about malema to a one about birth rate, death rate and what what... :erm:

Well Malema is the one preaching to the masses that he have the solutions for the ills of SA. We all know the real issues but the ANC does not address it.

LOL, have you just brought the credibility of the CIA world fact book into question? Who insinuated that they know everything? So you think that an independent sources (CIA World factbook nonetheless) statistics are BS? Wow, there is just no pleasing our eternal skeptics is there. Since you are being so anal about 2011, how about 2010, was that an illusion LOL
Dude it's all estimations and projections. The CIA hasn't counted every birth and every death, and every fence-jump...
Look at the HUGE jumps in all the numbers for SA in 2008... So it was either hella inaccurate before that, or hella inaccurate since that - either way, yes, the credibility is in question :)

*shrug* why are you taking it so seriously?

So you think the CIA are not smart enough to cater for all of these sorts of things into their projections right? The overwhelming majority of Deaths and births are usually recorded you know? Unless the majority of our births and deaths are going unrecorded, as this is what you are essentially suggesting.

I'm not taking anything seriously LOL. Why would you consider me highlighting these things to you as taking it seriously?

The same CIA who pointed to evidence of WMDs in Iraq? :D
And yes I think there is massive underreporting of births, deaths AND inward migration. End of story.

Thanks for vindicating me. They cite a DECLINE IN GROWTH not a DECLINE IN POPULATION :D
"There is a decline in population growth in South Africa," she said at the release of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) 2011 "State of World Population" report in Cape Town.

Sigh, you might want to read up on the nomenclature of population decline.

Population decline can refer to the decline in population of any organism, but this article refers to population decline in humans. It is a term usually used to describe any great reduction in a human population.[1] It can be used to refer to long-term demographic trends, as in urban decay or rural flight, but it is also commonly employed to describe large reductions in population due to violence, disease, or other catastrophes.[2]

Which is exactly what zizo911 was insinuating.

Surely you do understand the Mathematical implications of a decreasing growth rate? Surely this means people are having fewer children than they did before. Or it could be that while people are having more children there is a accelerated rate of of death. Either way way one of the two has changed. Or maybe it is emigration/immigration ratio that has changed in favour of emigration.

To think that malema actually said the following: "Having babies is a revolutionary thing. You must reproduce!"

Having lots of babies is this country's biggest problem.

That's probably THE biggest load of BS that Malema has ever said. There are 16 million grant beneficiaries in this country, 11 million of which are child grant beneficiaries. In 2004 there were about 3 million child grant beneficiaries. This means that the number of child grant beneficiaries is increasing instead of decreasing. The number of people benefiting from grants must be decreased and the number of jobs created must be increased. I believe that if poor people are told and educated about the ramifications for the country of having too many children they will listen and change their behavior after initially rejecting the idea. Contraceptives must be widely available to women, education of women is highly important.
My number one reason for joining a political organization is to convince people not to have a lot of kids, I think in this day and age it is wrong to have more than 1 child if you can't afford to take care of them. It has crossed my mind a couple of times to go to different churches and tell congregants that they mustn't have a lot of kids, it must be done in a sensitive way though because it's a sensitive subject.

I've only caught the last page of this and don't feel like reading it all (so some context may be lost on me here), but a decline in growth rates does not equate to a population decline. Think of a company reporting a decline in profit - it's just a decline - it doesn't mean they're not still making a profit...

What happens if Julius wins his appeal and he is allowed back to head the ANCYL?

Could this be a ruse where the ANC have offered up Julius knowing full well he will win his appeal and be back to head the ANCYL? Whilst he is vocal he could be saying what the ANC are unable to say in public?

True, however a sustained decline in growth will eventually lead to a decline in population. Let go of your car accelerator pedal and you will still move forward but eventually you will come to a stop or even start to go backwards depending on steepness of the incline (the incline here being deaths, emigrations, etc ). Some 1st world countries such as Germany and Japan are already at this stage of population decline.

Sustained decline in growth is a big assumption. Unless something like Aids spirals more out of control you can more easily assume that growth declines to a lower level that will eventually be sustained - but still growth. I'm referring to Africa of course.
