Inkwenkwe is the Xhosa term for a boy child who has not undergone initiation into manhood and by implication his opinions and statements are of no consequence and deserve to be treated with contempt when they are as rude, uncouthed and baseless as little Julias mostly is. The circumcision is merely a distinguishing mark of the transition into manhood and is not the purpose of the initiation school, which is for elders to teach boys the respect, responsibility and behaviour which is expected of a man. I am sure Mr Phosa understands this cultural belief, yet instead of giving little Julias the guidance and councilling he so obviously requires, all Mr Phosa wants to focus on is little Julias's precious genitals.
