Madeira Beach - A man accidentally shot himself in the head with a gun he thought didn't work, but is expected to recover, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office reported.

Dale Roberts, 20, was with his girlfriend, Amber Howell, 20, in his apartment, 107 145th Ave., at about 2:45 a.m. today, deputies said. The two had been drinking and Roberts jokingly aimed the .25-caliber handgun at his head. Thinking it wasn't working, he pulled the trigger, the gun fired and the bullet lodged in his skull, according to the report.

O ****. Some people shouldn't be allowed guns ey, in fact most people

I saw a vid where this guy pulled the trigger on a shotgun to see if it was loaded...some peeps dont think.

Hes lucky it wasn't a bigger caliber handgun...veeery lucky

He must have thought he would get some kind of reward, but he didn't die, so it wouldn't count.

What an idiot its people like that, that shouldn't have guns they a danger to themselves and others

If he had actually gotten it right, he would have been an Darwin Award candidate

Drunk people behind the wheel of cars kill FAR more people by any measure than drunk people with firearms, so this isn't cause to get one's knickers in a knot over firearms.

O ****. Some people shouldn't be allowed guns ey, in fact most people

He wasn't legally allowed to be drinking, so his behaviour was already against the law - legal age to drink is 21 in the US. In many states he wouldn't even be old enough to legally buy a firearm either. And this is one incident out of hundreds of millions of people with access to firearms, so your "in fact most people" makes no sense. Maybe you think we should just ban everything that might ever injure a person ... kitchen knives, stoves, stepladders, horseriding, cars, motorcycles ... these cause many injuries and deaths, let's ban them.
