It is sad but if you ate that reliant on oxygen you are near the end any way. Brace your self for the black out... Plenty deaths like this to come

Yes I agree. Especially the blackout will cost lots of lives if it we're to happen. (Not my place to predict if it will happen - but it's entirely possible)

Buddy of mine was out of power for a week due to cable theft another as result of a sub station fire.

Had he dies as a result of the above mentioned reasons would Eskom still be at fault?

There are schedules in place and even if they weren't get your own electricity house in order until the problem is resolved.

This is not Utopia.

Do you know how much an oxygen machine costs? Do you know how much oxygen bottles cost? ANy idea what the power requirements are of said machines?

You think your opinion has any weight when you are so ignorant of the facts?

Each cost around R22000. If he is on the unit i think he is those are only available for rent at around R4000 a month each and you can not buy them.

The big one uses 1000w and can not be run without a R2000 per month medical spec pure sinewave inverter from a generator.

So why not use oxygen bottles? Well a large oxygen bottle (medical) is R500 rent a month and R170 a pop to refil. A man in this condition will use it up in an hour.

Loadshedding is for 2 hours at a time. So you will need to spend R680 a day if eskom loadsheds twice.

and it is 100% eskoms fault. This was not a freak accident this was planned. You really think eskom could not fix the power situation in 7 years while paying out all those massive bonuses? clearly a lack of tought on your part.



Just fyi to keep our grandfather on oxygen will cost R10 000 a week if we need to power equipment ourselves. Medical aids do not cover this.

He had asbestosis , there is no cure and it must be the worste way to die , its a slow painfull death. Asbestos growing in your lungs until it completely fills your lungs cutting into your lungs causing bleeding in the lungs making it extremely painful to breathe.

This guy is better of dead because he was just suffering.

Are traffic jams perfectly acceptable?

These things are a part of life. Doesn't make them acceptable, but its something you must learn to live with. We don't live in paradise.

Electricity is like ADSL. Best effort. There is no guarantee that there must be service available 24/7.

Short answer - no. Long answer - the causal link to the poor man's demise was not load shedding, but a cornucopia of misfortunes of which his own negligence cannot be excluded... How can you blame load shedding when the municipalities don't even know which stage will be applied in foreseeable hours. Without anybody with exact certainty as to the forecast then this must surely be a consideration for any person reliant on life saving equipment.

The asbestos doesn't grow, the scar tissue grows, reducing the lung capacity and function.

You are part of the problem in this country - happy to accept the ****ty state of affairs that we find ourselves in, and happy to pay double/triple/quadruple tax on items, and then pay even more for backups when the stuff you've already paid for several times over fails.

Err no, I know that I have to make dinner an hour earlier wed and thurs night. If I can do that I'm sure as hell someone who's life depends on electricity can plan around the schedules.

Loadshedding not acceptable, however it's here and blaming Eskom for blown fridges and even this death is narrow minded and reactionary. Plan your lives people, it's really not difficult.
