Still the worste way to die , I don't see the point in blaming Eskom , he was a dead man walking only living because of a machine helping him breath so actualy Eskom extended his life.

Err no, I know that I have to make dinner an hour earlier wed and thurs night. If I can do that I'm sure as hell someone who's life depends on electricity can plan around the schedules.

Loadshedding not acceptable, however it's here and blaming Eskom for blown fridges and even this death is narrow minded and reactionary. Plan your lives people, it's really not difficult.

I agree in part, but not all the load shedding have been on schedules. One day the say there will be no load shedding, and then there is. With notices a few hours before the time.

Yes it's a pain when that happens, but everyone knows there is load shedding. Your life depends on it, you make a plan. I feel for him and his family I really do but blaming Eskom simply isn't fair.

Do you know how much an oxygen machine costs? Do you know how much oxygen bottles cost? ANy idea what the power requirements are of said machines?

Each cost around R22000. If he is on the unit i think he is those are only available for rent at around R4000 a month each and you can not buy them.

The big one uses 1000w and can not be run without a R2000 per month medical spec pure sinewave inverter from a generator.

So why not use oxygen bottles? Well a large oxygen bottle (medical) is R500 rent a month and R170 a pop to refil. A man in this condition will use it up in an hour.

Loadshedding is for 2 hours at a time. So you will need to spend R680 a day if eskom loadsheds twice.

and it is 100% eskoms fault. This was not a freak accident this was planned. You really think eskom could not fix the power situation in 7 years while paying out all those massive bonuses? clearly a lack of tought on your part.



Just fyi to keep our grandfather on oxygen will cost R10 000 a week if we need to power equipment ourselves. Medical aids do not cover this.

The powers that be fsuked up and no one is taking responsibility. At best Verwoerd is to blame for the power crises. Lets move on shall we because we know for a fact there'll be power cuts. And its been going on since 2008.

Five years to take the necessary steps to make life easier and prepare for the ANC Armeggeddon.

Blaming Eskom doesn't remove, relieve or address the problem.

We have moved beyond that because its a feken reality that has consumed our lives. We operate independently from the the abomination that is the ANC/Eskom.

The current situation is due to Eskom's gross negligence. According to nersa's stats, the power grid has a reserve margin of over 30% which should be more than enough for even an inefficient power utility to keep the lights on, but this is still not enough for Eskom.

I'm sure if the family was aware that there were going to be multiple power cuts or an extended power outage, they would have tried to move the man to a hospital (although I can only speculate), but with the way Eskom moves so quickly through the stages without much notice, it's very difficult to predict. It's even possible that after an initial cut in power during stage 1 load shedding, the man may have been too weak to be moved leaving them in a predicament.

Eskom must be held accountable for gross negligence. It's not acceptable that they can carry on this way with impunity making others pay for their incompetence. I would like to see a court case where they are pushed to provide documents as to why they are incapable of providing power and if gross negligence is proved, that their executives (past and present) are tried in court.
