Man dies during load shedding

Johannesburg - A Bloemfontein man, connected to two oxygen machines, died after Eskom implemented rolling blackouts twice in one day, Netwerk24 reported on Saturday.

William Engelbrecht, 61, died within 30 minutes after the power was cut for the second time on Thursday at his home in Navalsig, Bloemfontein.

According to the report, Engelbrecht suffered from severe asbestosis and his family believed he had not recovered from the first power cut when he died during the second one.

a few years back during the last bout of loadshedding i donated ups's to two pensioners who relied on a nebuliser at home.
there must be plenty of people across the country who rely on a medical device of some sort, who can only be terrified when the useless incompetent cadre kunts keep having to cut the power.

Yes most of them do work on batteries. It would be idiotic to buy one that does not work on batteries for a critical patient.



But batteries need to be recharged. Not everyone can afford a generator.

At the risk of sounding insensitive - I can't see how eskom is at fault. Put into perspective, load shedding is not new to anyone in RSA, at least we know and therefore it would have been reasonable to expect him to take the necessary steps according to the planned schedules. It's not like his situation was a consequence of a random power cut.... Nevertheless, very sad story, RIP Sir.
