Excellent news. So someone hijacks you and you have a weapon you can empty your clip in their direction. Will keep that in mind.

Obviously you have a problem comprehending the comment I made and then you add some dramatization to show your lack of understanding.
For one the guy did not "empty a clip in a direction". He shot the guy in the chest because he was armed according to the article. I do not have the minor details, neither have you so if you want to kill innocent people and get jailed for it, just do it!
Secondly in the past practically every person that shot a criminal, even during the violent attacks, a murder docket was opened. Therefore the comment.

Technically he did prevent a crime from happening. Hijacker is no longer in possession of stolen property

I don't (didn't?) think it worked like that. Normally unless your life is in imminent danger, you can't just kill the guy... Not that I don't think this was a fair use of justice

It isn't about your life being in danger - it is about whether you believe your life to be in danger. That's for self defence.

And I was referring to it in general, same as you. Next time something like that happens the lawyers have this case as a reference to get the good guys out of jail time.

No it isn't. It's how the process works. If someone is shot the firearm is sent for ballistic testing, a docket is opened. etc etc
