Management shake-up at Virgin mobile

This is an interesting read. We also tried to get some numbers from VM, but all we heard is ‘we are doing very well’. If they are doing so well why not give numbers. This is good stuff from Duncan again…wonder what Virgin Mobile’s response will be?

Good, hopefully this'll improve their service!

Sacranie could not be reached for comment and did not reply to a message left on his cellphone.

Maybe he's busy porting away from Virgin. :D

Maybe MNP'll help them but I don't know anybody that's used them for anything other than data, know its not exactly a scientific survey but there certainly doesn't seem to be massive uptake. I think people expected more from them after all the hype they generated, and their service certainly hasn't been up to standard.

VM has failed to impress me, maybe with new leadership they will have more impact. Wonder if they will find an SA guy or haul a newbie in from overseas?

Pants on fire...

But Maweni disputes this. He says the company is doing "very well". A recent deal to sell Virgin Mobile products in Edcon-owned retail stores has "done wonders for us". And mobile number portability has been "awesome", he says.

Maweni won't disclose how many subscribers Virgin Mobile has, though, saying the company's board had taken a decision not to disclose customer numbers. But the suggestion that it has fewer than 30 000 subscribers is "absolute nonsense", Maweni says.

What a laugh! Methinks the man sounds like he is being forced to lie :D

Just "awesome" dude! LOL

The way Virgin is going about trying to attract new customers in the light of MNP now is not very good at all really. There was very little fanfare from them and a limited phone selection. Still waiting for them to call me back about MNP.
A lost opportunity.

Virgin being a company with a dynamic image and flare to it elsewhere seem rather lac-lustre and ordinary here in SA.
Maybe a change of leadership is required. They just aren't selling themselves at all imho.
Not to late to fix it though. Their rate structures and no silly 2 year contract idea is a winner, just need to promote it properly.

Uh huh..
I am still waiting for them to fix up the bugger up with my number :(
My number has been offline for 5 days now

...
Yep, whilst I was still considering where to port my pre-paid 084 number to, I filled in the MNP form on VM's website, and VM has not contacted me about taking me on as a VM customer with my 084 number, I have since decided that I need a network with 3G and CellC has said that it will not be investing in vanilla-3G or HSDPA, so VM also loses as a result of CellC...
LOL, this after Maweni has put his foot in his mouth by vehemently denying that Sacranie is no longer CEO of VM...

I'm starting to think these punks have totally lost it..

Not only is my Vodacom no. offline due to MNP..
I've only just now discovered my cellphone with my VM simcard - the simcard to which my Vodacom no. is meant to be porting - now says: "Sim error, unregistered sim" ??
I sure hope the techies over at VM are pushing the right buttons...

are they joking?

Seems VM has some split personalities. Whe you get to the call center, the people there do seem to be a cut above the norm. However the data desk leaves a lot to be desired. Though first line support seem to be on the ball, the delivery of the service really pulls them down - maybe its because they are on C for yourself's network?? . I'm still waiting for a call back after an initial call from Data - almost 2 weeks now.

VM down here is a far cry from VM in the UK - Hope this new CEO shakes things up.

Virgin Mobile South Africa is pleased to report that Peter Boyd will be joining the business as its new CEO from the start of December 2006. He is currently Vice President of Marketing at Virgin Mobile USA, where he has been involved in the successful growth of the business to over 4million customers and winning numerous industry and consumer awards.

this is gonna be interesting...

They should sack the Head of Customer Services, Gerald Terblanche. I've spoken to him, and he is quite clearly a weak link in their chain. He has almost no comprehension of customer relations. I literally cringed at his approach.
Sack him too.....please...please!!

at least they can fire a CEO pretty quickly so that a good sign of a company that is nimble. I suspect Sir Richard must have kicked some ass after not being impressed by the numbers.

Hope the US guy will work some magic. Judging by the way Virgin US has done after entering a fiercely competitive market, hope he can take the old school boys club here in SA headon.

with Ivy in the helm i doubt they could be a threat to Vodacom and MTN.I have 2 months left with vodacom then i hopefully leave for something better.

Always a shred a hope left. Money can do wonders, but piggybacking on the most useless mobile company in SA leaved something to be desired. But they still have deeper coffers than even Telkom, so maybe something (albeit small) can happen.

No massive migration to Virgin this holiday (when many contracts starts and ends) just means they are not really worth it. Let's see ;)

I've also heard ALOT of problems on Vodacom's side with MNP. So much for the weeping of that Vodacom guy of all the money lost and people not using it. LMAO. I'm not going to be any bloodsucker's test host.

Good riddens. Now we might see some competition. Also the lack of any representation is shocking.
