Low-cost airline Mango on Tuesday announced the launch of its Internet offering G-Connect.

The service, in partnership with Internet Service Provider WirelessG, provides online Internet communication at prepaid data rates through 3G, Wi-Fi and ADSL.

The venture is Mango's first in ancillary revenue-generation outside the traditional aviation environment. Transactions are available through the group's website.

Aren't airlines always against the whole "electronics being on whilst flying"?
From what I always understood is that you are not allowed to use your phone, but you can use your laptop. Some airlines provide power points for laptops...

3G, Wi-Fi and ADSL.

ADSL on a plane??
Damn long cable will be needed.

G-Connect provides 3G, Wi-Fi and ADSL access from a single online account. Data is available on a prepaid basis in increments of R50, R75, R150 and R200. No contracts are needed and users receive immediate access to the internet.

It's not onboard.
It's the same as what Kulula have been doing.

So a wifi partnership in airports basically.

Screw that.
That's why the good Lord gave me 3G.

I used wifi while flying delta recently - it was weird skyping my wife while travelling in the air.... helped keep my mind off the trip. It would be awesome to have free internet on long haul flights.

Mango flies... rofl
Are they a subspecies of the common fruit fly?

Gotta love this country

A Banana republic, where we fly around on Mangos, piloted by Popo's , and manned by some cherries and a couple of fruits...

just wish they could launch in air internet here in south africa
Well, if Mango and WirelessG can team up together with this, hopefully they can come up with a plan to provide in-flight internet, or anybody for that matter. In-flight internet would be super cool!

I have a silly question

My friend is on a telkom 3g contract paying R150 a month for 500mb,
if he gets this will it just connect the same way adsl does, by changing the username and password?
I dont know how the dialup settings work with 3g hence the question.

Thanks

Yes, but in order to use this mango service you need to purchase a flight ticket. it would be easier just to use WirelessG directly. Go to www.wirelessg.co.za for more info about their products.

The main idea behind these voucher is to allow people to access the WiFi hotspots on the Airports, but it allow allows you to use the voucher at home when you are no longer at the airport or near a WirelessG hotspot.

To get the GConnect prepaid offer from home without bying a flight ticket, just go to www.wirelessg.co.za and register there.
