Manual push lawnmower

When I was 10 years old I set my grandmother's yard on fire with her matches which I stole from out of the kitchen next to her smokes.
The family were busy eating Sunday lunch.
I tried to put it out by cutting the burning grass with her old rusted push mower.
Nevertheless, that was a bit of a fail, so I had to run inside and call my dad.

Yes, it's a cheap make. It's also, pretty much, a handle, an axle, some wheels and a blade... not exactly cutting-edge, heh... 'cutting'... technology. I wouldn't buy a Ryobi generator, but I'd happily save a bit on something so mundane.

Buy a goat.
how to make one chore many...

1.still have to cut the lawn
2.everything but the grass is chomped on
3.neighbor mad since the goat is on his roof
4.goat does not want to come down

With regards to the push lawnmowers, Makro & Game had the Trimtech one for R799 for a long time...Makro recently put up the price to R899, and now also have the Ryobi one for the same price, and Game put the price up to R995.

I recently moved into a new place, which also has a very small garden, also around 16-20m2...decided to get the Trimtech one. Went on Game's website and couldn't believe my eyes - the Trimtech one was being advertised for R299! Phoned my nearest branch, sorry sir it is a mistake, we sell it for R995...friends of mine in Nelspruit went to the Game store there and showed them the online ad, and believe it or not they got it for R299! Next morning, the price on the website was back to R995.

Still waiting for my friends to come visit from Nelspruit and bring me my lawnmower, so cannot comment on the ease of use yet...my grass is also still growing so no need to cut it yet.

Decided to get a weedeater as well, cheapest one is the Ryobi 350W model, for R349, there is also a Wolf 350W for R399, when Makro had the Wolf one on special for R279 I grabbed one.

So quite happy with my purchases...one doesn't need anything more for such a small garden like mine.

One of my friends is a very small and petite woman, and she used a push lawnmower to cut her townhouse's lawn, which is almost three times as big as mine, and she claimed it was easy for her, so I believe they work quite well.

How did it break? It's pretty damn robust.
It was making odd noises as though the metal was catching. Ryobi quality control is poor and it surprises me to see it in the big stores like Makro.

Mine has been working for 2 years now and it works just as well as it did on day one. Maybe yours had a factory defect?

You see the big stores like Makro as sellers of quality? There is a reason it's called Massmart - and mass marketing and quality aren't typically synonymous.

Actually if a product (or brand) is experiencing high returns, the bigger shops tend to ditch them.

Fair enough - I usually buy from Makro because it's easy to take it back for a refund if it breaks, so I can't argue with that.

I still don't see it as buying quality though, it's made to a price and is typically designed to last the length of the warranty. I suppose it's a sign of how I've accepted throwaway consumerism that I can live with that. :)

Have been using one for about a year now, got a smallish lawn, Id say maybe 40-50m2 and it does the job well. Only issue is that it is difficult to get used to the "pushing" angle as it locks up if you do it wrong. Also I'd like my grass cut shorter but thats a minor complaint. I bought it at game for R800. Not sure on the brand.

Wow that Ryobi has a grass catcher.
Mine did not a F have that.
The grass just gathered on your feet and all over the lawn
You imagine mowing 800m2 of lawn and then raking it up after.
NEVER AGAIN!!!

Yes... had to do that as a chore or no going out on the Friday evening. Though no heaving pushing required - petrol lawnmower ...but without the grass catcher. Used to take longer to rake up the cow fodder than to cut it!
