Manuel get R1.2m BMW

Has anyone actually added up what has been spent on cars just this year alone? Among all the government departments I am sure it must be Ten or Twenty million.

This morning on the news they said something about 41 million since JZ came into power. +/-150 days

Lets take R20 mill.. how many houses could be build? How many people could have eaten...

Yes.. please keep on voting for the ANC people... they are enriching themselfs.

If he used his salary to do this purchase, then its different.
My salary is what buys me food, pays my rent, etc, when I give money to poor, its from my salary.

Pardon my ignorance for thinking that he might have invested some of his own resources into it.

The bigger picture is different indeed...R41mill is madness.

Mila, my point was just to say that out of everyone who have made news about getting a car lately, his name is last on my list as someone abusing power. He has invested alot of good time in his duties. Not like the people who get appointed and 1month later drive a R1.2mill car just because they can.

But you don't know what his previous car was, i.e the one that is out of maintenance plan ????

He can drive whatever he wants, but he can go ahead and pay for it with his salary like a normal person. Ministers etc should'nt get any benefits. Just a salary. What they do with that salary is up to them.

I agree, he gets a salary. I'm sure it's enough that he can buy his own car. Even a BMW. I agree he deserves one, but if he wants a luxury car he should buy it himself. My company doesn't supply me with a car, does yours?

I have no problem with giving a car to the department for his use, but a cheaper car would do fine.

OT: Damn!! BMW is kicking butt in public sector atm! :D

Must be Goverment saying thanks for the R 2.2 Billion investment the other day.

Precisely...why should they be allowed to pick which car they buy when in fact it's the department that is paying? The gvt policy should ensure that there is fiscal discipline. Allowing ministers to buy R1.2 Million BMWs is irresponsible. Even if we were a rich nation it would still not make sense...

Try and explain it to a gardener, or a maid...

"You wouldn't be able to afford that car if you worked for the rest of your life and saved it all"

How many people in SA would be able to afford that car... not many.

Yes and his track record shows he was good at what he does and I hope to actually see the new planning ministry actually do something. He is an exception because he has done well and deserves to get rewarded. Most ministers have not come anywhere near his success, so quite frankly they don't deserve a better car. I don't agree with this everyone should be the same trend that's been going around lately. I say he deserves it because he's shown he can actually earn it. If they incentivised the car allowances with performance, how many do you think will actually be driving expensive cars?

Here we go again , rewarding people for a job well done. Pray tell, what job has he done well? He is in the Planning ministry FFS  and what noteworthy achievements does the planning ministry have so far?

Kosmik;3232345Are you happy with the NHI? I work my butt off to get where I am today and a large chunk of my salaray goes to others even though it's my hard work that got me here and my responsibility if something f**ks up. I don't see others getting punished when I do.[/QUOTE said:
OK, how and where does the NHI come into this?
